towing

I realize this has been discussed in the past and it is not recommended.
With that being said I would like to know if anyone has used their Lancer to tow ANYTHING and what the outcome was?
I am looking to tow a small boat only on occasions... well under 1000lbs.
Any input would be appreciated,
Thanks,
-Wes

Problem is getting the hitch secured properly, cuz I'm sure none are mass-produced for our car.

I was going to pull my friends Civic out of a ditch in the snow, luckily a truck stopped before we got everything set so he helped us out. His Civic is lighter than my car but not as light as a small boat, so I'm sure it's safely doable.

There is a reason they don't mass produce tow hitches for your car....

Because it is not built to tow.

There are many more things that go into towing then just weight of object and HP/Torque.

1.) Does it have a ridged enough frame. For example a boxed frame that runs the length of the vechile not a unibody with front and rear framing?
2.) Can a hitch be securly mounted to said frame.
3.) Tounge weight of object.
4.) Shock travel and supension travel.
5.) Can the engine keep cool pulling the extra weight?
6.) More important can the transmission stay cool enough?

In the end it might pull the object without issue but you might also be damaging the internal workings of your transmission and engine that will only show up later in the form of major issues.

Get a small crapper of a pickup for a couple hundred bucks and use that. I have a friend who works for a travel trailer, boat sales and you would be suprised the damage they see done.
