I don't know if it needs to be recalled or not. It's noted by NHTSA as a concern but the Lancer still got 4 stars for the side impact test. I'd say nothing to be worried about at all, as long you're wearing your seat belt!

 

It's interesting to note that Dodge Caliber (which is built on same platform) has better scores. Not that I am defending Mitsubishi but none of NHTSA tests are the same from vehicle to vehicle, I mean you'll never hit another car in the exact same spot as the other, 1/16 of an inch this way, 1/16 of an inch that way may cost you a star. Anyway, those are good scores for the new Lancer.
