problem with 05 oz

my friend has a 05 oz and we took the honeycomb out of the maf the other day. it has a short ram air intake. after that it started going dead when he came to a stop and would not idle. we idled it up just a tad so it was at a dead 700 and it would stay idled but the rpm would fluxuate. any other people have problems with the honey comb.

Can't believe you took it off! Put it back on and attach the short ram intake before that then you should have no problems. Make sure you disconnect the battery before doing this!

i'm sorry to say this but you just screwed up big time. your maf is prolly the most important thing in your lancer and with you takin out the honeycomb, you just dug an early grave for your friend because it's almost a guarentee that you bent the sensor or worst.

now that you've taken out the honeycomb, and prolly screwed with the sensor.....AND you prolly have not disconnected the negative terminal, you have no other hope but to purchase a new maf and that's gonna put a dent in your wallet.

sorry to hear. and i'm sorry to say that.

what possesed you to remove the honeycomb? that is like the most delicate and one of the most important parts of your car.

like everyone has already said, you are probably screwed. Chances are your gonna need a whole new MAF so you should probably head down to the dealership and see how much they are

Or if you are lucky, head down to a junk yard and see if you can find a lancer and steal the MAF out of that. Or look around these forums, someone may be selling one if they have totalled their car or something

This is why you don't mess with a car unless you know damn well what you are doing. Reinstall the honey comb and pray you didn't damage the sensor. If you damaged that, you might be able to pick one up at a junkyard for cheap otherwise it's the dealership for you.

was this for your friend's car, or yours? because i noticed you need a maf sensor also. well, as an fyi, that honeycomb helps to smooth out turbulent air so that the sensor can read how much air your engine is getting. reason for the weird idle and dying out. put it back in, if it doesnt work then, go to a junkyard. i think i read somewhere on the forums that old dsms use the same maf, so you might get lucky if i remember correctly, you should search that.

Yeah, he's not comming back... haha You guys scared the kid away! Haha. Can't fault the guy for messing up... everyone makes mistakes. I'm sure next time he'll read an install guide before installing.
