I agree with LBLancerdude, i've been there, and i'm doing that, today is my 3 year mark in the navy...all i have to say is i hope you got all that stuff in writing, cuz oh yeah i was gonna be a rich man too... 1300 a month, thats before taxes, and all the other stuff they hit ya up for. As for the signing bonus...good luck. back to the issue, i got an LS so of course I'd have to say Evo

Man, air force has HUGE perks. This town I live in is pretty much an air force town, not my family...but the point is, a bunch of my friends are gonna join the Air Force. 10,000 bonus for signing, and if you were in ROTC in High School you already move up like 2 positions and start off making as much as a Tech Sergent or some shiznit like that...I dunno, everyone I know preaches this crap. And man, army stays in tents, air force gets hotels. If ya want $$$ and pretty much no way of being in danger unless ya actually fly that crap, then AF is the way to go for military. (ps, if any of that info is wrong, dont shoot me - im just a messenger)

Well I’m in the Air Force and been in for 2 1/2 years now. It took me 2 years of service before I reached 1300 a month and that’s my base pay. I get flight pay ($150) a month and then money for food ($242) a month. I got a signing bonus for a grand and I only got 500 of it cause of taxes. I know for sure I can't afford an Evo at this time in my life. Some people forget that with a car also comes car insurance. I'm paying an arm and a leg for my car. At least that is what it seems because of being in a military lifestyle. You get to go out and see the world and experience a lot. I know I like having money when I travel to cool places like Canada and such. It’s nice to have play money in my pocket which I have little of. Good news for you though if u do keep your OZ and have an interest rate above 6%, you can have it reduced to 6% by the laws of the soldiers and sailors act. That just doesn't go for car loans but also credit cards ect... the only catch is that they have to be accounts opened before you have joined the military. So if u were going to buy an Evo after being in the army you wouldn't be able to take advantage of the soldiers and sailors act. I'm sure you young like me so getting approved for big huge loans also will bring high interest rates because people like us have what the cal Nu Credit. I'm not trying to ruin of your dreams of sitting in a brand new Evo. **** I’d love to too! But I’ve seen this type of stuff before. As far as re-enlistment bonuses go they change frequently. Right now it may be 20gs but in a few months it may be 15gs or 35gs. The purpose for a bonus is to keep people in the military. If you’re an air traffic controller in the Air Force you get a huge *** bonus of like 60gs or something high like that. They do that because those people working air traffic control know that they can go civilian and start working at an airport starting off and 80gs a year. I’m sorry man but running around on the ground blowing **** up is something you can pretty my only do in the marines, army, ect. So there really isn’t any competition from the civilian world to the type of work you will be doing. Anyhow… I have said enough, choose wisely!

Edit: Oh and Snoopy has some good points there. Get it in writting and sign on the line for that ****, cause if you don't, yuo screwed. I've seen people get screwed several times and by the sounds of it Snoopy has too!

unless you have a degree and are becoming an officer, you can forget about making a lot of money. the military does not pay well at all. it is in fact the worst paying job i have ever had. so i suggest you stick with your lancer and mod it out because with your base pay starting at like barely 400 every two weeks, you are not gonna be doing too well. ooraah!... its a Marine thing.

your are rediculous lancerguy. whos giving you all this information? do you know that if you dont pass your AIT that you dont get your bonus? or that you cant just sign up for the Rangers, you have to qualify? and that base pay does not start off at 1300, its more like 1000 or 1100. 1300 is what an e-3 makes, and last time i checked, you dont become an e-3 out of basic...basic, what a joke. try boot camp. A.R.M.Y., ARENT READY FOR MARINES YET

in 2001 i got out of the army as a disel mechanic, i was in 1/2 ACR delta company (thats a cav unit in fort polk) the cav scouts were the most unhappest guys, if you plan on going overseas i would recommend you not buy ANYTHING till you get back, and i would also recommend you SAVE the bonus they give you. last i checked E-1 paid $845 a month before taxes, but remember you wont have to pay for food, housing, or utilities (unless your married) then about a year later you'll move up to E-2 you'll get about $150 more a month. but if your going overseas say to germany, you'll get hazard pay ($150-$250 extra a mo) if your married you get paid seperation pay (~$200 a mo) and if you decide to become airborn thats another $150. i would just get done with basic, save the bonus, go to ait, save as much as you can, get stationed then you should decide what you want to do. you could go to korea and decide you want a skyline, by that time you have about half the money to drop down on it and get it transported, hehe. this is just my opinion but its what i would do.

well for your infomation....i have been a D.E.P for 1year and by doing a task list i get promoted to E-3....so when i go in i will be an E-3. and my scores on ASVAP and other test scores qualify me to tryout for Rangers and i think after 3years of playing Army and 9years of Ice hockey and 10years of boyscouts i think i can handle the Rangers. and I HAVE my bouns writtin in my contract so i will get that when i pass my AIT witch is only 8weeks long....not that hard compared to what i have done.

edit: for those who dont know what DEP is, it is Delayed Entry Program

and acconding to the Rangers web page they are looking for enlisted people to goto Ranger School.
and also according to Army Times (for those of you who dont know what that is: Army Newspaper) Special Forces is looking for people to join....and SF is a $20,000 re-enlistment bouns.
