Clicking noise from Starter!

Wondering if the ticking noise from the stater is normal when you turn the key to on position, but not start. It makes a ticking noise.

Is this normal, do I need to take it to the dealer and have it looked at?

Please let me know.
Thanks

Hey guys, I have an '03 but i think what you may be hearing is just the magnets in the starter relay energizing and pulling in the plunger and pushing out the starter gear drive. If you don't have any problems starting the car, then i wouldn't worry about it.

You say clicking noise in your thread title but ticking noise in the thread itself. Which is it ? If it's a ticking noise...... OH MY GOD - GET OUT AS FAST AS YOU CAN !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Sorry - had to do that.

If you're concerned about it, call the dealership and ask if they charge you a fee to look at stuff under warranty. Dealerships like doing things like that.

Are you sure it is from the starter? I am a heavy truck mechanic and not sure if its the same on automotive but the abs computer runs a self test on every key on, you might be hearing the abs solenoids testing themselves??

Also, you won't hear the starter relay or solenoid click until the key is turned to the start position....

This topic has been covered on numerous other threads... It is a self check the car does every time the key is switched to the on position... No problem, completely normal...
