Reaching 90k...
Hey guys. I drive an 02 lancer, and its reaching the 90k mark. (Currently at 87k.)
Have most of you Lancer owners ever had problems with your Lancers at this point? The higher the mileage = breakdowns?
I was reading a while ago that a guy's car died on the freeway
and it was around this mileage.
Are there any common problems with Lancers beyond this point that will lead to high costs for maintenance? Clutch? Gears? Engine? Etc.
Thanks for your help.
This is helping me with decision making for buying another car.

The problems you are going to encounter with the car are going to be very dependent upon how well it has been taken care of up to this point - if it has been taken care of and not abused then you should be able to get the car over the 100k mark easily.
Odds are you bigger high millage problems are going to becoming from the engine in the form of wear - namely lower fuel economy and the like. Nothing should just overtly break on your if the preventative maintenance has been taken care of.

timing belt for sure if you haven't done it already. i waited until 103k to do mine and that thing was not looking too good when my friend and i took off the timng cover. might as well do all your belts (unless they are brand new) since you need to take all the accessory belts off to get to the timing belt anyway.
as long as the car runs good you should be okay, i'm nearing 112k on my lancer and it is still running very well. just keep up on oil changes and the like, perform basic maintenance and your car will thank you.

I've beaten the crap out of my oz since mile 1,000... I am at about 125k now and no problems... changed my timing belt around 100k as well as the other belts and water pump... oil changes every 3k miles and I am on my 3rd or 4th air filter now. Besides that nothing else really done as far as maintenance besides tires and brakes...
Did you guys notice a change in response after changing your timing belt? I'm getting occasional misfires and I'm attributing that to an old timing belt being stretched.
I can't say I noticed a change in anything really... My timing belt was actually in excellent condition and mechanics at the mitsu dealership agreed. No noticeable stretching or major wear, mainly just discoloration...
