Angry OZ lancer speed

has anyone noticed that have actually tried that once you hit red line in fifth gear you will only be at 130. Why would someone do that, i mean did they just not put a gonverner in and say that "instead of wasting money on the gonvener we will just have it red line at 130." The only way to go past 130 is to chagned your gear ratios with will cost way to much. I mean, who thought of the idea to have the gear ratios work against you in that way? Granted the lancer will be fast in the quarter because of it but what aobut top speed, isn't that what its all about? Once i buy my headers and springs i will be able to red line in fifth because i am almost there right now with my exhaust and injen intake.

Redline at 130?? At 130 i'm only at about 5200RPM's. Somethings not right there. Even NA i could go 125 at about 4700RPMS. Hmmm... interesting

Why would anyone want to top 130 on a regular Lancer???
And more to the point, where would you do it at???
Trust me, car companies have reasons for gearing the cars the way they do, they arent "working against you." Remember the Lancer is an economy car.

Good luck with the top speed runs and be safe.

Mine wasn't redlinindg at 130. Depending on where you live, there could be quite a few places to do it. I know there are here.

I second boe's comment. I've hit 125 in my auto Lancer and still not approaching redline.

I don't think the 125-130 area of speed is redlining, just topping out the engine. As for thinking it's all about top speed, I bought the car to drive with a responsive throttle. It's a torquey engine and the gearing gives it the push where it'll actually be used as opposed to some top speed I'll never reach. The only way to change the gearing would be to essentially lose any sense of power you have on the way up to top speed.

I agree with the comments of the people above....I "heard" the Lancer tops out at 190 km/h or above 130...I'm not one to test this without the right suspension and downforce though.

This has nothing to do with drag racing. Moving.
