availability of evo's?

availability of evo's?

hey guys i got a question for ya..........assuming the evo does come here sometime next spring, how hard do you think it will be to buy a new one approximately 8-12 months after it comes out? will they still even be making them? the reason i ask is because i have 2001 jetta glx, and i want to pay that completely off first before i trade it in for the evo, and i think itll take me around 16-20 months to do it. i'm worried that itll turn out like the supra or something and only a very limited number of evo's will be made and by the time i am ready to buy one (approx. a year after it comes out) it will already be all sold out and gone. can someone shed some light on this?

Who knows what will happen since has been quiet.

Here is a few scenario where it might happen.

(1) We might get the GT-A only (I hope not)
GT-A production will be larger than what Evo has been.

And the hype will be less so you can get it.

(2) We get both the GT-A and RS-II/GSR (I wish this will happen)
Then people than does not want to pay for the higher end model will
pick up the GT-A.

The chance is better you can get your Evo.

(3) We only get the RS-II/GSR w/ 270+ HP.
Supply is going to be limited and everyone wants one.

You are screwed then.

(4) We only get the RS-II/GSR w/ 250+ HP.

You might have a chance if people complain about not having
enough of HP. I doubt that will happen, look at the WRX, it was
detuned and it is a hot seller.

You might be screwed if it still sells.

Hope this clarifies what you might be expecting.

i'm just saying is mitsu only gonna bring one batch of these over? or will they continue to bring them in the following year(s)?

there will definently be more evos the following year...it just wouldnt be practical to only sell it for 1 year...plus this isnt some exotic supercar thats only available for a limited tmie...it only costs 23k in japan! cheap stuff...so itll definently be in production for at least a couple years.

Actually, the GT-A is the highest priced Evo - at 3.3 million yen w/no options. The GSR and RS are cheaper than the GT-A.

As for the price of the Evo, or for that matter, any JDM car, you have to keep in mind that exchange rates are not a reliable bellweather for prices. Currently, the exchange rate is very kind to the dollar, with 130+yen to the dollar. This isn't always so - there was a period where it was 94yen to the dollar, which would mean that the GT-A is $33,000+ before shipping and import tariffs, etc. Car manufacturers, all manufacturers from Japan instead pick a exchange rate that won't stiff them horridly if there's a major shift in exchange rates. Say they set the exchange rate pricing at 130yen to the dollar right now, and because of various factors, it shifts to 100yen to the dollar within 6 months. They'd lose so much money per car they couldn't afford it. Instead they pick something in between. Toyota, for example, has it set at 115yen to the dollar. And Toyota made more profit this year than any other because the exchange rates stayed at 130+. And they would have made less profit than forecast if it had dropped below that.

So don't expect $24,000 Evo's because that's exactly what they cost in Japan. Shipping costs alone forbid that, and then there's reasons as mentioned above.

I may be interested in picking up an Evo in a couple years too. I'm hoping that production numbers won't be too low and also that the STi is also out with decent production numbers. Then maybe the dealers won't be able to gouge as much or you might turn around and pick up an STi instead.

I think the only problem we are going to have is availability. They are giving us the evo, that’s official but the gt-a has yet to have any sort of official word on it so I doubt it's going to play a big part in any of this, at least for the first year. That just brings us back to how many evo’s they are going to give us. I imagine it’s going to be somewhere between how many wrx’s were made the first year and what they are making now. They are going to be just like wrx’s when they first hit, hard to get a hold of. Everyone I know picks the evo over the wrx; I’m sure more people want an evo then a wrx. I don’t think Mitsubishi realizes how popular the evo is going to be here in America.

Like I’ve been saying for some time now, the wrx and the evo are changing American hot roding forever; we will replace the RWD V8 in the popularity category. We are on the ground floor of what will be the standard for some time to come. This must be what everyone felt like right after the Mustang was released and they were counting the days before the Camaro came out. It’s happening again, I hope everyone’s ready for the ride
