Now that there is another "factor" in the equation will you settle?
I have been beating my head against a wall for several years now, but what is the deal with people wanting to turn to Lancer (base or Ralliart) into an EVO? Save your money and just buy an EVO. I know that might be easier said than done, but in the long run you just might end up saving a few dollars.

I've never said anything about turning a Lancer/Raliart into an Evo. I said, with a little love, simular performance can be achieved.
The point of this post/poll/whatever is: The people who are not really going to be autoxing/tracking/whatever and their next car is mainly a street car, can they see themselves with a Ralliart since there is a possibility that performance can be achieved that is simular to an Evo's.
Kinda like havng your cake and eating it too since a person may not want/need S-AWC, DSG, and whatever else. You still have a car that can let is nuts hang even though it may not have the "name" Evo. I'm sure people are not buying Evo's just because of the Evo name. People are buying them because they are cars that can perfom. We all know there is nothing like buying a less expensive car adding some elbow grease and "beating" more expensive cars. Evo>Porche Evo>what ever else. We've heard it a thousand times.
Just like how I can't say the 08' Ralliart will perform greatly, you can not say that it won't perform greatly.

You're missing the point, you can't get the all-around performance of an evo without either buying an evo or dumping thousands upon thousands of dollars into the ralliart. Could you make the ralliart as fast as an evo? Sure but that's but one facet of performance. It still wouldn't handle as well, drive as well, mod as well, etc.
It sounds very much like the evo and ralliart will have the same relationship that the STi and the WRX have now. If this is the case, the evo is the way to go. I love my WRX but after driving an STI I realize why it costs so much more.

you guys need to do a little research about the new RA. theres vids, specs and spy shots that show that the new RA WILL be turbo and its already been said that it WILL come with awd and from what i hear its not gonna be a 2.4l, its coming with 4b12 2.0l.
i voted for the new RA and i wouldnt just settle for it either. im just not that impressed with the evoX so why waste all that money when you can just get a cheaper awd turbo car.

I highly doubt mitsubishi will make the ralliart more of a tuner car than the evo. Mitsubishi isn't stupid, they can't rely on a name like BMW can (how many people buy an entry level BMW and remove the badges?), they actually have to have the performance to sell the car. They know people will mod the car and I suspect they will do like Subaru did and make sure that the evo is different enough from the ralliart that if you want the best, you have to buy the best. Simply saying "well the motor's bigger therefore it's better" is flawed logic. If they're using the same 4B11 and just boring it out, the ralliart won't be a great tuner car since it'll be limited in it's potential by a weaker engine.
in no way is the RA ever going to be the better SPORTS car, but as a tuner car for the STREET... maybe. with more displacement in the engine and less electronics to deal with, the car will be a breeze to tune. and even though the evo x will always outhandle it, i dare say the RA might handle as well as, or even better than, the evo ix...
slap on some sticky rubber, put on a coilover kit, some sway bars and strut bars, etc. and i dare say it just may outhandle the ix... of course all this is assuming things like the RA coming with a front LSD which may or may not happen...we'll see. with the evo x being so portly and pricey. i'm looking more towards the RA...
If I could afford an EVO, there's no way I'd settle for the Ralliart. X all the way if money was no issue. I'd trade my ES for the new Ralliart in a heartbeat -- even without knowing any tech specs.

OK I'll use the STI and the evo as an example. The STI has 0.5 l more displacement so by your logic it should be a better tuner car. However, that doesn't take into account the size of the turbo, the ECU and other factors that play a role in the power and responsiveness of the motor. Saying "well once you mod it, it'll be better" is silly because that's not playing on even terms. Once you go to the aftermarket world you can get away with coilovers so stiff they rattle your teeth out, tires so sticky they only last 5000 miles, massive sway bars, etc. which a manufacturer can't do.
my point is that i see the RA being a more mod friendly platform due to more displacement, less electronic gizmos and of course a cheaper car! but that's not to say the RA is better than the evo overall. what i'm getting at is that i believe the RA will be deliberately held back. it's much easier to uncork the power of a non-optimized engine than to make more power from a pretty tuned stock engine.
a lot of what i'm thinking depends on just how much tech is shared between the RA and evo. i mean is the 4B12 in the RA going to use be semi-closed deck? is the head gonna be as high flowing as the evo? etc. etc. etc. all questions to be answered later i suppose. my bet is that they will be close enough that the RA's price makes it the much better value.
The STi wasn't a better street car, that was completely subjective.

Man I like the Ralliart and such and would someday like to have an Evo but I'm perfectly pleased with my '08 GTS
It gets me from A to B reliably and with some style (about as much as a compact sedan can bring) and until I no longer make 400+ mile trips every other weekend I'm glad I have something that gets 30+ mpg
