Help me decide: '95 3000GT VR4 Now or EVO Later???
I found a nice Black '95 3000GT VR4 with 38k miles and in great condition. Price is also great. What do you guys think I should do? Should I get the VR4 now or should I wait and get the EVO when it comes out?? I can't do both (at least I can't get an EVO right away if I get the VR4 now), but this VR4 is AWESOME!!! Please help..

I say wait a few months for the Lancer Evo; this car will SOOO be worth it. It's still going to be up to you; a car with 38K that's awesome or a BRAND NEW car that's totally awesome
See where I'm going....there both awesome cars
*cough*Lancer Evolution*cough*
The rEVOlution

3000gt vr4s are nice...i considered getting one...but these are prone to so many problems...i hear their transmissions are total ****...they got too many gadgets and electronical **** for its own good...the 4 wheel steering sucks...its a freakin tank man...like almost 4k lbs it hink? or maybe even more aroudn 4200 im not sure exactly. not sure how old you are but for me that car would cost mroe than the damn car itself to insure...
so you can't get the 3000GT now and trade it in for a Evo when it comes out? well in that case i would opt to wait for the Evo, actually in a sense that's what i'm doing too, since i'm in the market for a car now, instead of getting a "superb" car now i'm just gonna get a cheapo decent one so it doesnt put a dent in my wallet and by the time the Evo comes out i could trade it in or something... well thats how i'm gonna come about doin it
and hey, if its only one car you could get, the answer's pretty obvious, well since you're in a lancer forum... heheheh good luck w/ everything :headbng2:

I'd wait for the Evo. A neighbor of mine had 2 3000GT's, both SL model. They were a total B to work on. Had to remove the intake manifold plus a few coolant lines just to change the spark plugs.

There is a Hunter Green 1994 3000GT VR-4 standing in my driveway...All I have to say is...although its heavy, it's still very fun to drive and you can drive with confidence. The main problem I have with the car is that when I'm on the highway cruising, the rear spoiler changes height and angle (I think). But when i stop the car, it goes...clunk, kinda annoying. TOo many gadgets, but parallel parking is a breeze with AWD steering.
I think the point has been made rather clear...I wouldn't touch a 3000GTO VR4
unless you only into straight ling performance. The 3000GTO VR4 was MMC attempt at the time to build a supercar filled with enough gadgetry and computing power to match those of Supra, GTR, RX7 and NSX of the early 90s. The GTO indeed had a great engine 24V 3.0 V6TT with 280ps/43.5kg-m and handling due to the 4WD, 4WS, electronic control suspension, Active Aero Aids.
However its also carried many unnessary gadetry of ETAC, ECS, ICON, etc I can't remember now, which did most of the driving for you. There was little to no driver feedback, which my grandma could drive it but steering it. All this made the 3000GTO VR4 a very heavy car at 1710kg which is almost 200kg more heavier then a R34 and Supra, 400kg over a RX7 and 350kg over a NSX.
Lets put it this way, your travelling at 150km/h you will feel your travelling half that speed...the GTO is indeed really a GT!
Need I say more why the Evo is a better car, just think the same computing power in the 3000GTO VR4 is now sitting in a more smaller, lighter and compact package...tell me which one will be more fun to drive!

Don't get me wrong the car is very quick even stock, and I have seen then tuned out over 800ps which is very frightening cos my mate as one.
The later models did come with the active rear and front spolier activating at over 60km/h I think. This giving the car more stability with greater down force at the rear and decreasing the airflow under the car.

the 3000gt has more electronic junk than the supra, rxy and nsx put together...ive never seen the specs of a car with so much cluttered acronyms in it...half of these are unnecessary and just made the car worse...4 wheel steering is not good...front steering only is preffered among rally drivers and stuff...i read that somewhere oh i know i remembe rit was about the 4 wheel steering made the car unpredictable and during corners would enduce oversteer then it would try and correct itself and enduce understeer...it didnt work so good..
First of all, thank you all very much for your comments... Right now, I have not made up my mind completely, but I can tell you that it is now just a matter of what the dealer offers me on trade for my Mustang... If it's a good deal I can grab the VR4 now, and also purchase the EVO when it comes out... If it's not a good deal, I'm keeping my Rustang and waiting for the EVO...
On another note, does anyone know the stock performance figures for the US spec VR4?? I thought they were something like 0-60 in 5.3, 1/4 mile in 13.8@100, 0.86g on the skid, etc... but I'm not certain... The car I'm looking at is lightly modded (intake, catback, and MBC@15lbs) so it pretty much hauls ***....

For example, the GMC Sierra Denali has the same turning radius as a CIVC because of its 4WS feature.
4 wheel steering is good if you know how to use it.
