Here's how sweet the Evo VII is!
Because I feel like sharing just for the heck of it I am going to type some quotes from the UK magazine called EVO (not like the mitsubishi). It's from the January 2002 "Car of the Year" edition.
"Mid-corner the chassis adjusts itself to minimise understeer, which is a bit sureal but you dont argue, you just plant your right foot and go... The Evo VII is the closest thing to a fighter jet on four wheels."
"The Evo VII is a car that can make fools of all traditional supercars."
"The Evo VII is brutally fast on almost any kind of road."
"It's a strangely brutal process in the Evo. There's no real enjoyment in the finesse of the thing. Maximum power, maximum power, brake, steer, power on as early as possible out of the corner. Once you've understood that, there's nothing more to know. But it is decastatingly effective."
"On anything other than a very long straight bit of road, it's the fastest A to B car you can buy."
"It's ferociously fast."
"The high-backed shoulder-hugging seat helps you forget the Lancer's tinbox origins, as do the tigerish steering and the chunky, positive gearchange."
"The Evo just eggs you on to drive the ***** off it, builds massive confidence, a feeling of indominability. Learn to get the power down early and you feel like a piece of slingshot - this sort of turbocharged muscle would be scary if it weren't so effectively deployed."
"I'm not particuarly sorry to finish my stint in the Evo. It's a car in which even moderately able drivers can attain silly speeds, while skilled drivers will use it as a weapon and annihilate any given road. If that's enough, fine. If you want more, keep looking."
"The Evo VII cut its way around the circuit like a scalpel, occasionally edging into a tailslide, but otherwise sticking resolutely to its line, those super sticky semi-slick Yokohamas biting into the tarmac like pit bulls into a postmans trousers. Sheer grip combined with short gearing means you can tackle corners a gear higher than normal, enabling you to tail more pwerful machinery in drama-free but highly effective style."
"More aggressive than an Impreza, less conventional feeling, and in its way just as specialized as the Ruf. Its so furiously rapid, after a brain-out blast up to radicofani I was shaking with adrenalin coursing through my body. But you have to drive it very hard to get anyhting from it."
"There was one road, a downhill run, where the Evo would have kicked anythings ***, and I guess that's why people buy it, to know it can do that."
Overall the car placed 9th out of 12 cars. It was only 5 points behind the 3rd place car (Lamborghini Murcielago) to show how closely they rated these cars. Other cars in the test were the BMW M3, Pagani Zonda C12 S, Lambo, TVR Tamora, Porsche 911 Carrera, Lotus Elise S2, Aston Martin Vanquish, and the Ruf R Turbo. They quoted the Evo as being one of the few cars to keep pace with the Zonda. That is very damn impressive.
