~! Dec Sales Tanked Vs Dec 2006

http://www.chron.com/disp/story.mpl/ap/fn/5425528.html

Now to put it in perspective these numbers are just for December. For the year, "Mitsubishi sales rose 8.8 percent to 128,993 from 118,558 in 2006."
Which is a step in the right direction.

But the December sales are a little scary, which is a bit funny actually, up here in canada they couldnt keep the GTS in stock, I think they didnt make enough of the high end Lancers, hopefully in 2009 they are going to learn from that. But with all this rumor and speculation about changing the GTS, it looks like they will not have enough cars to meet the demand. Not so smart.

I think the long wait time of 3 months caused alot of people to walk away, I speculate that Jan and Feb will be the same. Even in July I had to wait almost 2 months for the car i wanted, it was cut down to 1 1/2 months because I got the black car instead of the silver.

Anyone care to speculate?

well, the lancer was the only model that rose so i speculate that the lancer is there bread and butter and it's going to carry the model lineup until they can de-crapify the rest of their cars.

Its a all out punt rush for sure, I just think they are going to screw it up with problems because they are expanding the line way to fast, Different engine in the second year? (speculation of course,) but I hope the speculation is wrong and they dont play with the GTS. They need to increase production not comprimise it

Here in US the GTS trim in some places was also very hard to get, in fact Mitsubishi for the month of September sold out of GTS trim for a while until the new crop came in. Problem with current Lancer is the pricing structure, ES and GTS are priced too close (and you get so much more with GTS), I think Mitsubishi needs to up the price of the GTS a bit (increase in engine displacement will help to justify the price increase) and also offer the full body kit trim of the GTS as the option for the ES (not just the crappy rear lip spoiler they currently offer as a part of Technology&Appearance package for ES).

The ground FX kit of GTS makes the Lancer look so much better, I think that if they would offer this as a $800-1000 option, Mitsubishi would start to sell a whole lot more ES models. I don't think a lot of GTS buyers really cared about the sport suspension/paddle shifters/chrome inner-door handles as much as they did for the body kit.

I think in Canada there is an SE version of the Lancer available which is basically Lancer ES with the body kit of GTS (or is it just the rear spoiler?).

Anyway, the recent sales slump of Mitsu is also discussed at https://www.evolutionm.net/forums/sh...310963&page=13

I saw that thread just recently, but the focus of this one I started i guess is more geared towards the Lancer Line and how it contributes to Mitsus bottom line.

I agree with you, i think for what your getting , i would have expected to pay more. its funny i was even able to beat the sales man down an extra 2000 dollars off the final price and to throw in an undercoat.

I think they should rethink their marketing, make more of what people want. people were buying the SE in canada just as fast as the GTS when it ran out
