Unhappy GTS Damage - Estimate (Too much?)

Hit and Run in a parking lot.
Damaged front bumper and hood. Needs replacement (perfect time for upgrade)

anyway, i went to a local shop and got an estimate.
My reinforcement bar upfront is bent and the guy said it needs to be replaced. Along with the Reinf Bracket - $438
The replacement stock bumper with grill and all - $780
Replacement stock hood - $470

Parts.
reinf bar and bracket - $438
repl stock bumper - $780 (will be getting a diff kit instead at $350+shipping)
repl stock hood - $470
misc parts - $ ?

Here's the labor and Paint.
Body Labor: 11.8 hours at $42/hr - $495
Paint Labor: 12.3 hours at 42/hr - $516
Paint Supplies: 12.3 hours at 28/her - $344

Grand Total: a whopping $3662.30 (That includes tax, fees, and misc parts)

(Scream...) If you're in college like me, its a big hit.

i wish i knew more so i could install'em myself, i know its not that hard. u guys think i should go ahead and let them work on it? theres a lot more shops around, but these guys are one of the best and they actually look like professionals. Great clean shop too. We've all seen a chain of ghetto back alley shops haven't we? btw, when they order the parts, do i pay for shipping or do they got that all covered?

Yeah OUCH that is EXPENSIVE!!!! Considering that is about 1/5 of what the car costs originally. The labor seems cheap to me though (at least the hourly rate does to me)

Not sure though. I'm sure some of the users will be able to help you out some..sorry I couldnt!

no. dont really want my rates to go up...

then again, i thought it would only cost around 2K - way off. Ill be tapping my credit card and some of the emergency money (which is intended for the car in the first place but not this situation!).

i wonder if the labor rate is negotiable.

Dude, seriously, I'd just get the insurance to cover it. Most places have an accident forgiveness thing now, so you should be okay and not have your rates go up. That's a whole lot of money to spend on what seems like minimal repairs.

OK here it is .... call your ins. and tell them it was a hit and run in a parking lot, there is no surcharge but you will have to pay your deductable, (300,500,1000)depending on your policy. dont worry your ins. will not go up,and sometimes the bodyshop will split or wave your deductable to get your biz. This has been my experience since i have worked in a bodyshop for over 14 years.

The quote sounds about right. Your car gets fuxored up, it's not cheap to fix. Everything sounds reasonable.

I'd also vote you go with insurance. You are NOT at fault, so how much could they possibly raise your rates? And even so, would you really rather pay $4k out of pocket?

met up with my friend who works for BMW
said he'd help me with installing. He should have all the equipments.
just need the list of parts that we need from the shop.

this should save me half the cost and couple of cases of beer.
