Fuel Efficient Driving
Fuel Efficient Driving
So, apparently my MPG is nothing close to the sticker MPG. I'm not sure if its my driving or just my car. But I was wondering if anyone can give me some fuel efficient driving tips for CVT GTS. I need some advice for the automatic and semi transmission. Thanks in advance. Also, I was wondering for the semi, is it better to shift up after letting go of the gas or should I shift up without letting go of the gas. I figured that if I shift without letting go of the gas, their is a delay in the shift, so I got into the habit of letting go of the gas then shift. I'm not sure if this is recommended. Can someone please give me some advice?
Don't let off the gas, the car will handle the shift.
Basically, for the best economy
- Accelerate gradually and evenly
- Brake slowly with the car in gear
- Use the cruise control on highways
- Don't speed
- Maintain the car/tires

don't forget... stick it in D and don't "get on it" with CVTs to get the best economy.
the more gentle you drive the better the fuel economy... so coasting up to lights with very light braking... slow acceleration from any speed... the more you can keep the car in motion the better your economy will be.
It's a tall order to fill... most people don't really have the patience to do what it takes to get optimal fuel economy on a regular basis.

I have patience most of the time lol. But its just that the semi transmission is fun to play with lol. Also the lancer's 2.0 liter engine accelerated extremely slow on first gear in automatic so I tend to use semi a lot. Thanks for the advice.
Also, if your car is new, you're fuel economy will depend whether or not the engine & transmission are broken in yet.
I have a 5spd, and when I first got my car I was getting 20MPG city. Now that the drive train is completely broken in, I have no problems hitting the advertised fuel economy ratings. I don't even have to try all that hard to hit the "City" economy.
