According to Carmax, my 08 Lancer is only worth $7500
What type of crap is that?
I took my Lancer in earlier this even to the massive Carmax dealer near me. (Irving, TX)
I get there, and the people are all friendly and nice, and I tell them I would like to get an appraisal. No big deal right? I have some hail damage on the car, so Blue Book value is around $13000 because of it. I was guessing my offer would be around $11K though.
I had gotten it appraised last month to see what it was worth, and back then I had a carbon fiber hood, trunk, and some killer looking Enkei 18s on it. The appraisal was for $9500, and he had said that had I had the stock parts, the appraisal would have been for about $12,500.
So what did I do? I put the stock parts back on, and decided to sell my carbon fiber stuff. Actually, I went a step further and put my intake, rims, and strutbar for sell as well. I am now running completely stock and it feels like it lost a lot of its attitude.
I still can't believe that after that, Carmax said they would only give me $7500 for it. This is a 2008 Lancer with about 9500 miles on it. What the **** is wrong with them?
So now, I'm stuck with a stock Lancer that is apparently not worth much, and a bunch of parts that I have nothing to do with.
Sigh.
TL;DR - Carmax screwed me over.

wow i thought it would be a little higher since the 08'ers are the most sold lancers in the us but than again mitsubishi and mazda holding the least value. i heard honda and toyota are one of the companies that hold their value really well which i checked 2 years ago.
Go ahead and keep the car and put all your parts back on. **** trading that ***** in. Private selling it is the way to go cuz you will get your moneys worth cuz the person buying the car most likely knows its worth. Not some ****ty stealership.
Trading your car will never net what you want. Sell it yourself--you still will have limited takers depending on style and mods. But you will get closer to what you want. Remember carmax is in the car business not to give you what you think its worth, but what they think its worth so they can make money..after all its a business, its call business for a reason. Nobody screwed you.
I can vouch for honda (acura) holding there value.
I just sold my LEASED 2006 Acura RSX to the Carmax dealership here in Nebraska. The buyout on it was 14,000 and they gave me $16,000....that was with door dings and missing centercaps. So I made $2,000 on a car that I was leasing and I got out of it about 6 months early so yes Honda does hold it's value very well.

this is something every person should know before buying a Mitsubishi. If you buy a Mitsubishi new, plan on keeping it until its paid off. I knew this before buying my Lancer, paid 20k otd for 09 gts s&s and been seeing one listed online here in san antonio with 2k miles for 16,500...mine already has 8500 miles on it so basically I can prolly get 15k for my car, that I still owe 19k on...
Am I upset ? No, its no secret that Mitsubishis dont hold their value well but the Lancer is sure fun to drive and I plan on keeping it until its paid off.

Your car is worth more than you were quoted, but you can't ever expect to get much of anything for a car when trading it in to a used car dealer. If you really want to get rid of it and get the most for your money, sell it privately.
Also, never sell a car with mods on it, it'll almost always kill the value.
Finally, nobody screwed you.
