New to site...and already have a question.

Hey Guys,

I'm new to the site and was hoping that someone could answer the following question for me. If someone has already posted this question, then I'd be grateful if someone gave me the link for the forum.

Question:
What are the similarities between the EVO engine and the '95-'99 Eclipse engine that suffered the crankwalk? Aren't both the same engine (4G63)? I had a '97 GSX that I had to sell...one of the reasons being the fear of crankwalk (the other the $300+/month insurance bill). Has Mitsubishi addressed the problem for the EVO engine? Thanks.

I'm pretty sure the Evos use a different variant of the 4g63, but someone could check me on this one. I'm sure one of the Evo owners will chime in sooner or later.

Oh yeah. And welcome to the site. Questions are good! (As long as they haven't been asked a billion times before.)

You should be able to run a search for "crankwalk" or any related terms to your subject and find some really useful info. I can remember two discussions about it but I don't remember if they covered the differences (or lack thereof) between the USDM 4G63 and the JDM 4G63.

Good Info!

Thanks for the info guys!! I did a search for crank walk and did some good reading. From the posts and replies I've pretty much concluded that the Evo will be ok. The crankwalk issue was a real concern for me. Why Mitsu would keep the same engine name for different engines is beyond me.
