Are stock parts worth anything?
Are stock parts worth anything?
I have an Evo IX MR, and I'm about to have a lot of work done on it. I was wondering if the stock parts that get replaced are worth anything, or should I just junk them? I looked through the marketplace section, and could not find anyone selling stock parts, except for a tiny number of items. All the stuff out there seems to be aftermarket parts, which supposedly have some improvement over the stock parts. The stock parts that I will have are:
intake
catalytic converter
O2 sensor
FMIC
fuel pump
cams
catback exhaust
I am not sure if I want to go to the hassle of reselling these even if they're worth something, depending on how much they're worth. Should I ask if the shop will take the parts in return for a discount on the work they're doing for me? Or is it all useless junk? would appreciate any advice!
thanks

check the for sale forum to see what other people are selling those items for- most of those things you could sell to somebody going back to stock after they had sold all their stock parts. If you dont plan on keeping the car forever you may want to hang on to them and store them incase you decide to go back to stock (higher resale value unmodded)... or else it will be YOU trying to buy those parts down the road
Hi DJ,
That's the thing, I did look over the For Sale section, and found only a tiny number of stock items for sale. Stuff like shifters and valve covers. That's why I'm asking here whether stock parts are worth anything. I don't have much space for storage, so keeping the parts isn't really desirable. I will either junk them, or ask the shop to take them in return for a discount on the work they're doing. I just wanted to gauge whether that is a reasonable request, or if they're going to laugh me out of the shop for being naive.

I have seen things like the FMIC listed for $75, fuel pump ~$25, cams ~$40 (not sure what they actually end up selling for)... BUT, I sold my stock cat for over $100 just to give you an idea...not sure about what stock airbox, CB, and o2 sensor are going for, but you could post all your stuff w/prices or put "pm me your best offer" and see what responses you receive- total you could maybe get a couple hundred $$$ if you find a buyer for everything. If the shop will trade you a few hours of labor for everything it may be easier for you, but most people needing those things are peeps converting back to stock, aside from maybe the o2 sensor
Hey thanks for the great advice!
I think I will end up keeping everything except the exhaust piping & muffler, since it takes up so much space. The rest of the stuff I guess i could toss in a big box, including the cat. That sounds like the most valuable item too.
Stock stuff is definitely very valuable. It may not pull a high price in the for sale forum, but its a great idea to save your stock parts. When you want to revert, or you simply need it for some reason, you'll have it there. Now I am buying all the stock parts I junked or sold, and regretting it every time I check my bank account...
But, if you KNOW you'll never need it. Sell it!
