While the info isn't entirely new, these two additional threads should be able to provide more info...

Yeah, pretty good...I should know... Was in accident weekend before last. Was hit on the drivers side, all I got was a scratch on my elbow, but the car was totaled on that side, but it held up very well and noone was hurt

Supposedly, Volvo has optioned Mitsubishi's RISE chassis design for some of their new cars.... I think that says ALOT.

Yeah, the Volvo S40 and V40 share the RISE unibody design with the European Carisma.
But has been building quality cars since the late 70's. For example, Porsche licensed 's Silent Shaft balancing design for their engines. I see a lot more old Colt Vistas, Galants and Mirages than I see old Toyotas or Hondas.
Sorry about the rant...

Did anyone watch Dateline (investigative reporting) or something where they crash tested new model cars, the Lancer being one of them, it rated the highest along with the Suburu Impreza. Test was done by the Insurance Institue

Missed that one... but, I will say this... I know that the Lancer rated best overall for slowspeed crash in 02... that was, that in several different tests, it was the LOWEST to repair to factory quality at several different types of collisons at under 15 mph. Pretty good, eh?
