Grocery Getter to Street Performance
While eating my morning Breyer's Ice Cream(since its almost 90 degrees right now) I've come to thinking about BOOOOOOST. How much do I need to take myself switch from the grocery getter class to the performance street car class without going into the mad scientist/true performance car class?

yeah, I would say 10 psi should be good, and from the conversations I've had with Rob at RRM, it is dooable on the stock internals with some mad scientisting. water sprayers to keep oil temp down, new fuel pump and regulator etc. etc. but rob can tell you much more specific stuff than I. **** this heat..ac on max ac and fan on 4 doesn't keep me cool enough.
Another one for 10 thats 3 10s so far. Knock sensor(thanks to B for telling me aboot that) shall be the deciding factor I think as to determining the limits of the factory bottom. Anyone else think higher is better? BTW this isn't barring any modification. This just to determine how much boost makes sense for a performance street car. Comparing to other modified street compacts which are running only 5 psi I think running 10 is a great deal of boost for the Lancer. I've also gotten recommendations of going with 8 psi as the happy medium between reliability, economy and performance.

I'd get a mbc and keep turning it up untill you start knocking then backing it down a notch and run something like a J&S Safeguard incase something runs amuk
Just don't run it over 10psi. Wonder how happy the clutch will be running that much more hp?

I agree with what you said off forum Cliff, in running 8 daily, and running 10 (with sprays and what not) at the strip.
= double digit boost on a modified (NA-->Turbo) daily driver, in my eyes.
Well it seems staging should go like this
1: Install of Turbo Kit with Intercooler, turbo timer and full exhaust
2: Upgrade of Ignition components and install of Ultra Safeguard
3: Upgrade of Clutch and Flywheel
4: Install of AVC-R and S-AFC
5: Boost and dyno tune

running 5 psi sucks. not enough power. it is a good increase, but not enough. 8 psi seems to be the safe yet powerful enough boost level for the us lancer. right now i have 5 psi on stock injectors and stock fule pump. 8 psi with modified injectors and pump should be well enough power. anything more and you'll be nervous to race it. definate upgraded clutch and flywheel. that is a must for boost levels of 8 psi or more. yeah.
