8k HIDS Not Bright? Switched from 30k.. confused! HELP!

Hey everyone, I recently had 30k hids, then decided the light output was not good enough for me.. so I ordered 8k's. I am using the 8k bulbs with the ballasts that came with the 30k's and noticed that the light output is not much better than the 30ks.

I am wondering if it's because I'm using a ballast that came with 30k's, or maybe my headlight housing is dirty?

Could someone help out and explain possibly reasons for HID Dullness? My connections are tight and secure.

I assume you mean 3000 K HIDs correct? 30000 K would be ultraviolet and well beyond the range of human vision. 8000 K lights won't be brighter because they're into the purple light spectrum. For maximum perceived brightness, you want around 4000 K which I believe is white.

Cleaning the headlights would also be a good idea.

Nope, that was no typo. I had 30,000k hids. And like you said, they were super dark violet/blue.

I cleaned my headlight covers, they were fogged. And lighting seems to be a lot more "ranged". pretty good now actually. I still think they should be better.

Does having too low of wattage going to the hid bulbs result in lower light output?

Not that I know of, my understanding of HIDs is that they either work or they don't work, once the minimum voltage has been provided, the light output stays the same.

You probably need to realign the headlights . Unless you bought a cheap quality Hid kit .
This used to be my car with Oem headlights and 8k in them .

30,000 will be ok for light directly infront of your car by a few feet. but beyond that your looking at light output down the road that will be no better than your Halogen regular lights.

Stick to 6500k and lower. you will get true hid light output without sacrificing. 8000k varies from manufacturer to manufacturer. basically there is no standard in the industry so people can call a kit what ever color they want. Stick to reputable brands that have a long standing track record.
