Arguing for the Lancer ES
None of the four of us are planning any visual mods; that is, we're only planning on performance mods. But WADAD, what guages does the OZ come with that the ES or the LS don't come with? It's not like the OZ is going to have a turbo guage or anything.
NsXTypeR, the Lancer is nearly 100lb's heavier, and only gets 26/33MPG while the Civic EX gets 32/37MPG. I like the Lancer, but there's no way you can manipulate those particular specs to our advantage.

I say why not the ES? Same engine as the rest of the line. You can't get cruise control or ABS but those are perfectly acceptable losses. Sure you lack the pinky width rear sway bar but that's no huge loss, but it would've been nice to have (think junkyard
). The wheel/tire size is awful but it delivers a good enough ride and if you plan to replace them, it really is no big deal. Hm...interior color isn't as nice as the OZ (gray vs. black) but give your MO for how you're going to work on the car, that's a trivial factor. The OZ has the different gauge face (borrowing it from the Evo), a beefier steering wheel rim, beefier e-brake handle, and that little shiny ring around the base of the shifter. The OZ has a ground effects kit but that's just superfluous weight so as a tuning platform, the ES is probably your best bet.

The question is not so much why not the ES as why not the Lancer. If we're getting Lancer's, we'll almost certainly get the ES. The difficulty is in convincing the guys to get Lancers. (And truth to tell, I prefer the grey interior to the black interior.)
As for how we're hooking them up, we probably won't go identical ways. I've been looking into RRM and RMR the past couple of days, and it looks like AEM is starting to produce Lancer parts as well (which wasn't the case a few weeks ago.) By the time I get mine, I'm looking at dropping around $3000 into it within a few months of getting it. For that, I figure I can get an intake, exhaust, larger rims/tires, and saving up a bit more, maybe RRM's non-ic turbo kit.
At any rate, I'm not planning on going down to the drag strip every weekend with this car (or at all for that matter.) However, I do commute an hour plus each way everyday for work, so I definitely want a car that's fun to drive, and won't get jittery at 80MPH sustained.

From my experience Hondas have the best transmissions in the compact sedan class bar none. I'm toooootally with EvoSoul on this one.
EDIT: Although our gas mileage ain't too shabby.

Well, I've decided to not get a matching car with my roommates. It would have been a lot of fun, but I can't justify spending $18k on a Civic. Don't get me wrong; I must admit, I _do_ like Civics, but not enough to spend $18k on one.
Especially when there are better options like the Lancer. I haven't definitely decided on a Lancer ES, but I've definitely decided against the Civic. (By the by, I probably will end up going with the Lancer ES in 6-18 months.)

You want to beat a civic and be purty fast right? Well for about that 18k range you can get the 180HP V6 HYUNDAI TIBURON!!!
Oh well, it's your choice

I edited to go on further about Hyundai and it's fine 10 yr warranty and new line of great cars:
Here it is:V6, 6 spd transmission (YES 6 not even EVO has 6!!)
, 17" alloys!, LEATHER seats, aluminum foot pedals, MOONROOF, ABS, body colored high spoiler... you can't beat that for under $20k w/ 10 yr warranty. Just debadged and put on an "H" HONDA emblem on it!
Then you'll be
and get fione *** Asian women who drive suped up cars like I do~

I'm glad you decided not to get matching cars with your roommates....is it me or doesn't anybody else think that is really wierd. Even if they are close pals.
Be original.
Be original.
New civics are gay the way there ecu's are programed its kinda wierd to modify them now a days. The lancer is the better choice but personaly i probally would gotten a 96 civic hb for around 6k and maybe one with really high mileage for 4-5k or a 93 hb for rought 2.5k. Then drop a B20 in that bizatch and run 12's and lower. and you would still have money left over to turbo the bizatch
. Then have money left over to throw around in your friends faces
Im not dissing on the lancer or anything but id rather mod a car with the money and still have cash left over.
96 Civic HB 6k
B20z Long Block fully tweaked 5k
Turboing it 3-4k
watching the face as you blow by a corvett like hes nothing pricless

One of us wants an Acura RSX.
One of us wants a Civic EX.
And I want the Lancer ES.
(The fourth isn't dead set on any particular car, although he loves his GTi.)
Now, the GTi and the RSX are out of the price range for two of us, which means that we're really going to have to choose between the Civic and the Lancer.
Now all four of us like the Civic (none of us really love the Civic.) I'm the only one who is proposing the Lancer, so I have quite a bit of work cut out before me to convince the other three guys.
So far, I can say that the Lancer ES is $4000 cheaper. It's got slightly more torque on paper. It's got the larger interior. And lastly, it's _not_ a Civic. It seems like you can't open your door without dinging a Civic these days.
Arguments for the Civic include VTEC, more hp on paper, better aftermarket support, luxuries (such as sunroof, ABS, etc.)
Now I would like to for the four of us to get Lancers, but I need a more convincing argument than the one I've got now. I know that aftermarket support is getting better for the Lancer, but it's still nowhere near the support for a Civic.
I would like to make my argument for the Lancer instead of against the Civic. I'm sure the vast majority of forum dwellers would like us to get Lancers too, so please voice your thoughts. Thanks.
