Lancer Ergonomics
I am a proud owner of an 03 mitsu lancer oz rally, I love it but..
I just can;t seem to get completely comfortable in the drivers seat. I was wondering how many other people are having this problem. The drivers seat just isn;t adjustable enough for me. Just about every time I go to push in the clutch or shift I hit my shin on the lower dash, and the seat height just won't go down far enough to get a clear view of the road and surroundings of the vehicle. I wanted to know if anyone knew of any suggestions on how I could lower the seat more so I can completely feel at home in my mitsu???

hell yeah, i know exactly what you mean. im a big guy, so i need spcae, and i know the the lancer wasnt the best decision with that in mind. but why the heck dont they roll back more, and yeah the hell are the so jacked up? i feel like a giant in this car. i swear, im gonna get a bucket and replace the damn seat just so i could at least be able to stick my head out the window without banging my head on the ceiling.
if you have it maxed out, i guess you could try some aftermarket seats? but how tall are you? you must be like 6' 6" or something. i'm 6' 1" and i have the seat as far back and as low as it can go. it was definately a change from my old '89 LeSabre T-type. it took awhile to get comfortable, but once i got my ***-groove in there, its been nothing but heaven. i can even tell when i let somebody else drive my car, cause my groove is all messed up and i have to rework it in.

TRUE yeah man im 6 5" long drives are not good for me in this car.... especially wit out cruise controll.... Im definitely gonna get some aftermarket seats and see how it turns out
I'm around 6'2" -- 6'3" and it took me a good year i'd say to get a good 'feel' for how to sit comfortably in the lancer -- the only way i feel "at home" is if i lean in to the right a little bit, sort of allows me to stretch out a bit more -- but anyways, just thought i'd share what I know

Ahh, the joys of being short and stumpy
. I have yet to have a problem, except when I'm so tired after work that I can't get out of the car. That's always a problem. Seem to get my feet mixed up sometimes and just stumble out. Eh, no one sees me, it's around midnight usually.
Anyone have a problem with an indention in the floor mat where either heel is? I have an auto so I only have the crater from my right foot, right below the brake? Anyone's else do that?

I'm pretty comfortable for the most part. But I will say that even at 5'10", I find that I'd be happier if the seat was able to be lowered more. I hit my knee on the steering column (even all the way up). When the money is flowing a little more freely, I'm gonna get some Sparcos.
One of the reasons I bought the Lancer was for the headroom it provides compared to other compact sedans, but my back complains to me after spending too much time driving, and really aches if I race with it. I'm getting some better seats very soon.
I'm 6'2" but rather slim at 165lbs. No problems for me. I lean on the door when I'm driving anyway. I've got monkey arms so reaching my short shifter generally isn't a problem.
I agree that the seats aren't the best however, and I have dinosaur extinction size craters in my floor mat from my heels...no, *******. Not high heels. The heals of my MAN-FOOT SNEAKERS.

well, i drive a slushbox. that means i have to find something to do with my left foot. the current favorite location is to prop it up on the "storage" area on the drivers door. makes a nice little foot rest. i keep looking at those ralliart knockoff seats.....anyone tried them yet? the bars in the seats dig into my back if i move around too much and it pisses me off.
haha, I didn't expect such a responce. Yeah, I am 6 foot and about 180 lbs. When I am driving the car I feel on top of the world, its really awkward for me since I have only owned the car for a couple of months now. Seems like every day I am trying different seat adjustments to try and find the right fit for me. Think that the best bet for me it to save up and get some aftermarket seats and maybe lower the suspension a little. I have a 96 golf with eibach lowering springs and an extremely worn in seat, so the difference in the 2 cars is like night and day with the whole seating situation. At least now I am not the only person with this problem.
