Question Air Intake install...

For my 02 ES: I was looking thru the how-to's and didnt see one on installing an air intake, so I must ask... How to? Whats involved, and can an average man like me do it in my home garage?

As an example, if I bought the intake mentioned below, could I install it on my own without much difficulty?
(Also this is a very cheap CAI, should I be wary or just go for it anyway?)
Thanks

Eh, intake is easy. You can do it no problem.

The things to watch out for is

making sure you are not an auto. Cold Airs wont fit an auto without modification

and I dont see talk of a MAF adapter plate. I see where it says your OEM intake parts are needed, but you need the adapter plate to mate the filter with the MAF...and the picture conveniently hides that.

But at $30 bucks what do you have to lose?

It's pretty cake. Like Green Bandit said, if you're an Auto, you're pretty SOL with CAI's. Also make sure you have the Adapter plate for the MAF sensor or else you won't be able to mount the filter. Long story short, everything passed the Throttle body comes out. Going in reverse in terms of flow, it's usually Throttle body, Intake piping, MAF sensor, MAF/Filter Adapter, Filter.

I wouldnt trust buying that one. It says if fits the evolution model as well. evo intakes are completely different than es/ls/oz rally/ralliart intakes. But this could come with the adaptor plate as stated above. It says nothing on it but its $30. You really cant loose with that kind of deal. if its not right you can buy an adaptor for it for $13 on ebay as well.

Thanks guys. Yeah, unfortunately I do have an auto haha. Thats interesting tho, I didnt know CAI's needed customization for an automatic... Well as mentioned I could buy the adapter seperate if it was to be. And yes I figured Id probly get it anyway cause of the mere cost, and I could always sell it again. But now I gotta ask...what needs to be custom fitted? Besides adapter (probly), what else would I need to fit this CAI on my auto?

If I'm not mistaken the pipe itself would need to be bent in a certain direction because the tranny is in the way. Its too big in other words. You could make it fit but I would rather just stick with the short ram intake and call it a day. Or goto an autozone and get those custom fit pipes and work from where the adaptor plate is to be installed and make your own.

You probly could make that into a SRI if you had the adapter plate. Hell, thats basically what RRM did. What a waste of $130...

Question

Yo, so I bought the CAI, and the guy refunds my money and tells me he got the item broken. Go figure lol... So now I guess Im gonna go with the SRI. Check out these two:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...K%3AMEWAX%3AIT
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...K%3AMEWAX%3AIT

I think there both the same just different sellers (and colors). The second one is just mislabeled I think, I'll ask him just to be sure. So what do you think? Direct fit now right? No need to modify anything...? Thanks

If you're automatic, just stick with the Short ram intake. It's way less of a hassle to install rather than getting a custom cold air (Which would more than likely rob you of power due to the extreme angles you'd have to make it in order for it to fit.) Those kits look complete for the most part.

Yeah, Ive got an auto. Cool, sounds good. It was just the expense that scared me away from getting an SRI. But I'll see how low I can get it. Thanks bros, if I run into any difficulty I'll be back lol. Peace

Question Weapon SRI?

Alright so Im looking at a few SRI's on ebay still, and I fouind this one from Weapon: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...m=250690565726

Its the cheapest so far, and yet they claim the most hp gain Ive read of. I know the 4g94 isnt great with these but hey if it get more than the competition, why not? So I guess Im wondering what you guys think. Anybody have one? Still a good SRI for the low price? Thanks!
