Oz with a hitch!?

Hey guys, I did a lot of searching on the thread and web and know that there are hitches for the lancer (except Evo) as they say out there.

I have an 02 OZ and wanted to know if anyone had a hitch installed on theirs and if the Lancer one worked out fine with the bumper clearance and all.

Any input would be great.

I am trying to tow a motorcycle trailer with a medium sized bike on it, so I dont think weight or anything would be a problem, just wondering if anyone had any experience with this.

Thanks

The skirts don't actually add much length to the bumper. There's probably no more than an inch lower clearance so honestly I'd say you'd be fine

Now the real question... is there an alternative? A hitch is gonna look ****ty. You don't have a truck? Do you really need a trailer to haul around a bike?

Hmm.. that inch could make a difference as the Lancer hitches are made to sit right under the bumper I believe, and I wouldnt want to cut my skirt for the hitch.

As far as looks, I know it wont be the greatest but it will be useful. Nope no truck lol I am actually doing this to avoid getting a truck, and how else am I going to haul around a motorcycle plus having a hitch mounted bike rack would be much better than the trunk or roof alternatives.

At least I think so.

Yea I was just giving you flack... but why not drive the motorcycle where you need to go instead of hauling it? Never owned a bike so I was confused....

hopefully somebody hear can give you an actual answer

Edit: These eBay hitches claim to fit all models

No problems man, before I had a bike I would ask same question, but sometimes you need to have your car and your bike at some place.

Thanks for the eBay link, I'll check it out.

go to the nearest junk yard, and find the biggest piece of **** truck you can finde for like 250 bucks that runs and purchase it. and load your bike in the back of that. then you can drive places and have a bike. cuz putting hitches on cars is just........well silly

People who do track days or race their Evos (but don't have the money for a proper tow rig, a flatbed or enclosed trailer, and/or don't live where they can store either one) often put trailers on the back of their cars to tow Harbor Freight mini 4' x 8' trailers to carry wheels/tires, tools, and fuel jugs (I have to bring at least 30 gallons of E85 besides what's in the tank when I go to the track).

Why not just stuff it all in the car? Well, if you've ever driven a car with the A/C and rear seat removed with 30 gallons of fuel IN THE CAR WITH YOU, you'd understand why you'd want it on a trailer.

Also, once you put a roll cage in a car, there's no way to put anything big like wheels and tires inside of it.

But yeah, I guess it's "silly" to put a hitch on your car—unless you truly love driving and racing your car, but can't afford to have a proper tow rig/trailer.

well, if you would stop tracking and spending all that money on expensive fuel and stuff for a few months or longer. then think about all the money you could save, and then you could put it in something like a truck and trailer. And then you wouldnt look like a broke pos going to track meets and what not with a hitch on your car....but hey you do your own thing. this was just a suggestion. and yes putting a hitch on your car looks like ****. Im not going to sit here and play interwebz whose dick is bigger games, but go buy a piece of **** truck, a trailer, and haul both your car and bike at the same time. If you can spend all this money on your "race cah" then you can afford this.

egbeater, that was about the best comment i have ever heard, you made me giggle like a school girl.

$250 truck pulling a 5k trailer, dropping out your "race cah" and streetbike. You will look like a effin pro. Trucks are meant to look like crap. Thats there purpose, to be driven thru mud, ran into things, be all scrapped up. Thats what makes them trucks, i have a truck that is 88 chevy silverado, that truck is a effin beast, does it look like ****............yes but it does its duty, its half whit and half purple. And has a rusted roof and a gun rack in the back window. Its tailgate is from a different truck, its red. the truck looks visually unappealing, but id drive it anywhere, and when its pulling your 5k trailer filled with your 10k bike, filled with your 40k car. I honestly dont see how or where this seems flawed.
