Difference between OZ Rally and VR-X?

Hi all,

I have a 2005 VR-X Lancer so I live in NZ, I've been looking at buying some RRM parts and having them shipped over.

However being as it's a US website it doesn't have the VR-X model for any parts. I've tried doing some searching but haven't found a exact answer and thought maybe someone on here will know.

Is the AUS/NZ VR-X Lancer the same as the US OZ Rally? If not what parts should I be getting then? LS or ES?

Parts I'm looking at are;

AEM CAI;
RRM Headers;
Bored Throttle body;
Magnaflow cat-back;
Eibach Pro series springs

Later on will try to get;

Intake manifold;
Flywheel;
Carbon shaft;
Clutch;
Port polishing

Thanks in advance,

Sanzie

Welcome to the site. Maybe throw some pics up so they can get a better idea of what they're dealing with. What engine do you have? 4G64?

Well, 4G94 is the same motor as the American cars, so it sounds like you're in business so far. And it sure as heck looks just like our cars.

I would ASSUME everything should fit. Maybe call RRM and get their opinion? They might know how close the VRX/OZ are, since they are the experts.

Tried emailing RRM, but haven't heard back, anyone else got ideas?

Going to add a extra note here, the chassis type is a CS6A. If anyone who has an OZ Rally can check and let me know I would be very grateful.

Cheers,

Sanzie

well i checked under the hood but nothin as to the chasis code... cs5a/w is ref to the lancer cedia... ours is cs6a code if im right

btw i just thought of this, check under the hood and look on the firewall for the "VIN" plate. that plate is stamped with info for your car like the engine code... i know on mine its on the driver side firewall... once u fine that plate u will have the engine code and that will give u alot to go on and if it is the same 4g94 as said before (if its the same as the us 4g94 ) then the parts from rrm will work... but if you can take a pic of the engine.. im curr cause of the ones i seen from ur side of the world have gdi engines

Right so gonna hijack my own thread here;

I can have a custom cat-back and headers made for me for around US$1100, would I be better still paying the extra for a Magnaflow? It will be a 2.25" piping which is the same as the Magnaflow and are custom building it so that it won't be tinny or droney.

I've also decided to go to a SRI since it seems to be the better option for Auto's. Can have a custom piped, heat shield one done with a K&N pod on it.

And I'm wanting to replace my suspension, having read around a lot, and gotten a few quotes it seems that the price of getting some Bilstein shocks and Eibach springs is basically going to cost me around US$2000 and I figure if I paying that much I mights as well go to coilovers. But what brand, I can get some Tein's for around the US$2000, some Cusco's for around US$3400 and some BC Racing for around US$1200. I'm not racing in the car, just street driving, I do a 2-way trip every 3 weeks which is around 600km's all up, and a mate wants me to go to some track days with him, so might be doing that 1 or 2 times a year.

Also looking at getting Whiteline front and rear strut braces and the Whiteline anti-sway bar.

Being as I'm in New Zealand, far away from the US I stuck for choice in some things. What would you all recommend?

if its that much for the struts/spring id go for coilover's// a shop gave me 800$ + change for struts alone for all 4 with labor.. and i said for 200 more i can get coilovers.. if the diff isnt that much from struts/springs to coils , id say go for coilovers... i know lots of people who dd their lancers, and goes for any car, that have couilovers and thy all said the drive is nice and confortable..

Yeah that's the way I see it to, any brand I should try and get, mainly looking for comfort, not going to low, basically street only.

Is a branded exhaust going to offer anything more over a custom.

Go with the custom exhaust. It's totally worth it. Same answer regarding the SRI.

If it comes down to it, get the sway bar first. You will probably notice NOTHING from the strut braces, whereas the swaybar completely changes the car's handling (in a good way).

I'm always a big fan of Tein. And they're one of the few companies that make quality Lancer kits. BUT you will NOT get comfort from coilovers. You will get a stiff-as-f**k ride that handles like a dream. Decide what you really want. If you want comfort, stick with stock parts. Anything aftermarket will generally be stiffer and LESS comfortable.

A branded exhaust only costs more because of the brand. Generally, unless the custom one is poorly made, you will see no improvement going branded over custom.

Cheers Blacksheepdj!

Yeah they going to do me a high flow cat system so it a little extra (US$300) but I think it's worth it.

Yeah I'm also getting a price on some D2 coilovers, so just waiting for the guy to come back to me.

Exciting stuff! I love upgrading my cars!
