URGENT! Missing VIN on dash

Hi All,

I am looking into purchasing a 2005 Lancer ES and noticed the VIN plate is not on the dash by the registration and inspection sticker (top left side on dash)? There is just an "airbag" sign there instead. Is this a sign that it could be a stolen car or is it located somewhere else on these Lancers. Can someone take a pic or let me know where the VIN for the dash is located?

Engine bay/ should be on all body panels (at least on evos it is) I would probably walk away though....... What did the owner say about the missing vin ?I would think the car was probably in an accident and the passenger bag blew off and he got a used dash for $100

I could be that windshield was replaced and just doesn't line up to where you can see the VIN. If you can't see it and/or the owner isn't willing to figure that out, I would walk away.

Yeah, so far i havnt even talked with the real owner, only through his friends or family, which seems to know nothing about the car and was the one who showed me the car. Anyone have a pic of where the vin plate should be on the dash? Maybe i looked at the wrong place?

I checked the carfax and theres no signs of it being reported stolen or in an accident.. so might be looking at the wrong place?

Walk away. Think it is a coincidence that you haven't talked to the real owner?

Use your brain or pay the price.

I don't know why someone would even consider a car that is missing one of the vin numbers. It's either shady, or the car has been wrecked. Either way, do not want.

The vin number is on the same tag that says air bag , under the sun sometimes the stamped numbers are not noticeable .

The vin should be there, plain and simple. Even if its the case of replaced this or that, walk away. I'm sure there's other 2005s around.

I'm glad someone else posted that lol.

It's possible that you just didn't see it, since the sun can make it hard to read the tag. If you take another look and it still doesn't look right, then walk away.

vin tags on all body parts matching = hasn't been wrecked.

it's basic due diligence.
