What gas are you guys using?

I'm curious as to what you all are putting in your lancers?

87 / 89 / 91+

87 is fine for stock, i'm tuned lean with a slight bump in compression, so i run 89 in the winter and 91 in the summer...

I like to run 91 or 94. Costs a little more but feels like it runs better. (maybe just in my head) but hey I figure theres gotta be a reason for it. why use Race gas at a track otherwise? If I get a chance I may one day tune for 94.

Its like synthetic vs non synthetic. Sure its not needed but it is better.

A bunch of Japanese guys with thick glasses and pocket protectors made the engine work most efficiently with regular grade fuel. Loading premium in does nothing but create incomplete combustion cycles - it will not burn as cleanly as regular fuel assuming a stock engine/compression. Premium won't give you more power or a cleaner engine - in a stock N/A Lancer, it's a waste of money.

Not all race cars use race gas - you're logic is a little fuzzy there - putting a roll cage and slicks on a Miata does not mean I need to go fill it with 110. Race gas is used for special applications like some purpose-built cars that run very high compression, classic cars, etc., not because of a universal law that says higher octane = go faster. If a car can race on normal street octane level fuels, it generally will - the price of race grade fuel is too absurd to do otherwise. Plus, race gas can contain additives that aren't exactly healthy to run through a normal street car (if you're thinking in terms of a track day visit).

There are situations where synthetic is the only option. You're totally right in terms of the Lancer, though - it's not needed, but it is better.

Yeah I guess you're right with the tune I just feel like she runs smoother. Maybe its in my head. Guess I gotta get it tuned .

How about keeping fuel pumps clean and what not? Sure it wont help at all?

Either way in my head it feels better so I'll prob continue wasting my money lol

Won't do anything for the fuel pump. At a minimum, premium fuel contains just as many detergent additives as regular grade fuel. Some refiners, like Shell, do add detergents in a higher concentration for their premium fuels, but it's more gimmick than it is substance - your pump will be happy either way

Nj_08_gts is right. Just put regular in your car. It is all in your head that it's running smoother. I bet you also feel that the car is faster after a fill up. If you’re worried about the filter or injectors being dirty, seafoam the gas tank and call it a day.

high octane fuel burns slower so you can tune for that by advancing timing, and it is also more compressible so you can run a leaner AFR without knocking...factory tune and stock compression ratio, premium fuel will make your car slower before it makes it faster, and like nj_08_gts said, you'll get incomplete combustion...

since i last posted here, i turbocharged my engine, and i'm still running 91...

What if you put a beefed up 302 in the Miata? I had to smile when I read that, .lol I was actually planning on putting my mustang motor in a Miata. haha
