As you can guess from my post title, im from Australia!
Im also the owner of a 2001 Lancer VR-X Sedan

The 2002 Mitsubishi Lancer is being released next week, and I for one cant wait to see the new model in the flesh.

We are getting 3 models.. A basic model, a prestige "if you can make a lancer prestige" and the VR-X. The VR-X is your equivelant of the OZ Rally I think.

My first impressions arent that good to be honest... the car is just so much more different to the 97-01 models.

The lancer looks really good from behind, not too bad from the front, and really really bad from the side. Looks kinda like its been stretched too much.

Although I do think it looks alot better in the black over other colours. Cant stand the yellow thats posted all over the internet.

I have been looking around, and I think that this grill will make all the difference to the front. All the pictures of the Lancer in the states and asia have a silver grill? which looks really ugly, so im glad to see we are getting black on the VR-X as standard.



The 2000-01 model VR-X (first ever VR-X's) were $22,000 AUD. The new model VR-X is listed as $25,990. But there is a massive improvement in safety and standard features.

New 02' model VR-X includes Power Windows, ABS, Dual Airbags, Fog lights, 15' wheels and 2.0 litre engine. None of these items were available on the 00/01 VR-X. Thats a whole load of extra features for not much extra.

The 00/01 VR-X only has 14' wheels, no airbags, no power windows, so you can imagine how much better the new model is.

So although you are paying an extra 4k, its easily worth it with those extra's. There is also a $1500 option for a sunroof factory fitted which wasnt available before.

I know the 'Cedia'.. "LANCER" has been out in the US and Asia for a while, but its only just got to AUS, so im pretty excited.

I would like some more pictures if possible.. especially of the OZ-Rally and its interior. I would like to compare it to our VR-X

As far as I can tell, yes it does.

I also noticed that the Australian VR-X gets standard spot lights, unlike the Oz Rally

We also get a full body kit, im not sure about the US version.

Take not that even though the Australian version is all dolled up with kit and all, it has no engine mods

Standard 2.0 all the way....

Same kit as the OZ. Different grill (color coded instead of chrome and a red diamond star), different wheels, and you get fogs. Do you get the same 4g94? That'll give RPW a chance for some hands on testing...which is A-Ok by me!

little unit conversion would help i have no clue how much kW is.

26 thousand as well.. thats a bit of a step up on price.. still only $14,000 US.

hmmmmmmm i liked our lancers looking heaps different from the rest of the world. although ours used to only look like americas mirage.

i say stick to the old in australia..

sounds like the 4g94. I'm just wondering if there are any changes at all. Hopefully we'll be running off the same platform. More parts for both countries.

Since its a 2L SOHC with 92Kw...I suspect it's the same engine out of a Airtrek 20E 2L 4G63 SOHC 126ps/17.1kgm engine.

Can anyone post a picture of the OZ-Rally Interior, im really axious to see what interior we 'may' be getting.

And Lee, your exactly spot on. Thats the one were getting.

You could look through the reg or Carpoint has a couple too. It basically looks like the inside of an Evo VII. (more or less...leaning towards less)

The Cedia in Asia, although a different engine also gets a better range?

This is the equivelant of the OZ-Rally and VR-X... Cedia Sports Edition.. as they call it..



As you can see here, they get the colour coded grill like the Australian VR-X but no Fog Lights.



Hows that for a non-EVO interior? Pretty damn nice if you ask me. Is that what the interior of the OZ-Rally is like? Ive not seen teh VR-X interior yet so im not sure about that.

Whats with that steering wheel, it has the controls that are to be on the Evolution GTA.





The cedia also gets white dials like the VR-X has, does the OZ-Rally get them too?

If the stats are true, it's the same 4G94 we all know and love. The max HP and torque kick in at the same RPM which is the biggest indicator. The tranny is my only questions as this "tiptronic" is like nothing we have. The USDM Lancers do indeed have a learning auto tranny but nothing that the driver can actually "shift" like in a tiptronic style tranny.

As for Cedias, they use GDI engine techonology across their line built from the older 4G93 engine. Here are a two ( 1 + 2 ) links of what I know about the Cedia.
