Angry Lancer depriciation

Somebody please help me understand this, i cant get it because it is so fricking unrealistic. I bought my car in july of 03 and paid 19,000 for it, now here in January i got two speeding tickets on my record from farther back when i didnt own this car. The insurance company just now found out about them and now i have been kicked off my parents policy, and am forced to sell my lancer to lower insurance, it's rediculous. Anyways, i have called many places and even confirmed on the kelly blue book site, and it says the high of retail on a private part is frickin 10,000 and the low is like 8,000, what the hell. Mitsubishi holds there value pretty good, im referring to the eclipes though i guess, but why the hell not on the Lancer. The Lancer is a good car, o and it is an OZ Rally Edition, and that high low price was referring to that package. I mean it runs awesome, i smoked my friends v6 193 horsepower pony on the interstate, and im sure he wouldnt stand a chance on the street either, but give me a break this car is prime for a 2.0L single overhead cam, naturally aspirated. The top speed i had the car up to was 125. But come on man, the price cut in half over a 6 month period, im blown away. But anyways, that was my question. Thanks, Dusty

yea kinda sucks....the main reason is that there are so many lancers on the road...Mitsu had a big fleet sales program with them too.....so the value pretty much sucks

I hardly see any of them over where i am, in Montana, but i guess go figure. But still, there must be an abundance of them elsewhere then. I might have to get out of this state and see for myself. But i still dont understand why it cuts straight in half over that short length of time, i would hate to see the price in about 2 years. Wow!!

yeah I feel ripped off because I paid tonnes of my 2003 lancer where you can get them for HALF THE PRICE NOW with only a few miles on it.. oh well first time I bought a new car, it'll probably be the last as well. live and learn. =)

Hey you're right, this was also my first car that i bought brand new and im with you, now it will be the last for a long while when i can pay cash and rape the crap out of them. Because it seems car companies are getting more desperate as time flys by, so they will go reeeeeaaal low, just to sell the car and make it go on their sales record or goal. Besides its mostly all profit anyways.

The value is based off what a dealer could get for the car at auction. You say the KBB is 10K clean try to get a deal to buy your car i bet they would give maybe 6K. Its unfair to say the least but is how it works. They will not pay more than what they would pay at auction. So you are better off to find a Car lot that will allow you to do a cosignment. Basicly you put your car on their lot and they sell it for what ever you tell them to.

yeah i'll admit i was pretty shocked at the drop in value. but then again i guess it all depends on what you have planned for the car. i know most people have "situations" or "circumstances". the only thing i can say is that its basically the car i wanted. car, color, transmission, trim. i honestly have NO plans on selling it. if anything i'll just get another car. so i guess its safe to say i really love the lancer. but thats just me.

Sounds like i got royally screwed. However i did find the car for me too, trim, and tranny, but i wasnt planning on selling it either but the insurance company has stuck it to me good, i got kicked off my parents policy and now the insurance is through the roof. The insurance has pretty much made no other option for me. By the way if anyone is looking for a brand new lancer OZ, with 6k miles on it, and factory warranty, then email me, @ cowboythe1st@hotmail.com. LOL, but i owe 14,800 on it, this sucks, especially when i think of the guys paying 6 and 7.5k for theirs, but was yours the OZ, im just curious. So i need that price but i am willing to negotiate, to get out from under the bank note. Thanks, Dusty.

well, thats if you sell it according to the book. if you babied it, upgraded it and it looks clean then i bet you can sell it for 15000 easy.

Yeah, do you really think archangelite, cause it is has been babied. I have taken care of it like im going to own it for the next 5 years, which i was planning on. So you guys think i should stick to my guns and keep about 14,000 or 15,000 because its in the same shape as it rolled out of the factory. Thanks, Dusty.
