Need some advice

So I've found a 2006 Lancer OZ. The guy wants $500 for it. Body is in great shape except for some minor rust on the hood. The body has 300, 000 km on it and the motor was swapped out and has around 120, 000. He says the car may need around 2000 worth of work to it but didnt get the list from his mechanic. From the outside it looks like it needs brakes. Is there anything you guys would recommend i check before I commit to it

getting any car like that. You are going to want to do a complete fluid change, spark plugs, etc. As long as the engine sounds good when its running and the tranny shifts fine, it should be okay.

$2000 at some mechanics won't get you much. The cars are not too complicated. Check it for codes, see if any codes for 02 sensors are popping up. Check to see if the timing belt and water pump have been changed recently.

My thoughts exactly. But what about the o2 sensor code? I had an 06 oz previously and had o2 sensor codes but never looked into them

Just mentioned 02 sensors because they can add up at around $100 a pop or so, Haven't bought them for the Lancer but when they go bad, they are not cheap. Sensors in general, most will throw codes. Good thing to check before purchase so you know what to expect for repairs.
