Would it be possible to just pick up any old exhaust i.e. fireball, tanabe, or anything else and then just take it to a muffler shop and have them do the fitting and welding to boost the HP of the 02 Lancer instead of waiting for full kits to come out?

 

You could buy an Apexi N1 muffler and have a custom exhaust shop use it to make you an exhaust for your Lancer. I'm not sure what other companies offer just the muffler. If you go that way I would make sure to have a resonator put on to reduce sound in addition to the muffler.

If you're doing this for the hp then I would start with something else. An exhaust will probably get you around 3hp up top and you'll lose a little low end torque which you end up using the most on normal roads.

I would imagine that most Universal mufflers you see in magazines would work, you might even be able to have an exhaust place make you a custom cat-back.
