How do i get the oil pan off?

I took all the bolts off but there is a really strong sealant on it that isnt letting me pry it off. I already tried wedging a small screwdriver between it but it isnt working. Crap all the west coast ppl are still asleep.

Don't use a screwdriver. it will put a dent on the pan. Use a oil pan scrapper from NAPA or any auto parts store.

The oil pan is sealed on with RTV instead of an actual gasket. When you put it back on, make sure you scrape off all the old stuff, and put on new RTV. Just go up to your local parts store and ask for a tube of "RTV Sealant". Shouldn't be more than $5

Dude,

this isnt a flame, but if you cant get your oil pan off, maybe you shouldnt be working on your motor. Hire someone... If you continue on just keep working at it with the scraper at different points all around the pan, it will release eventually, dont get so frustrated. What are you trying to do anyway?

ok.. and an oil pan scraper.. which is basically a tool that is very thing.. and a little sharp at the sides.. almost like a knife.. and what i did was when i had to install mine.. is you just kinda force it in between the oil pan and the block.. the you move it slowly and try to move it around the whole pan.. and it comes off.. just be careful, DONT PRY IT, and you should be good.. use like a flimsy metal ruler or something.. thats what i did..

if you have like a really thin, short knife that can work.. i had to do mine the gettoe way.. cuz my dad would only help me with tapping it.. but anything skinny/flimsy that has somewhat sharp edges will work

Oil pans are never easy to get off.

There should actually be one bolt hole on your pan somewhere that dead ends at the block. What you do is take out all the other screws, then use one of those to screws you took out and put it into that dead end hole. Just tighten it down for a bit and it'll separate the pan for a good 6" or so. Then it's pretty easy to gently pry with a very large screw driver in small increments. Do it gently so you don't dent the pan, and it'll go from there. Shouldn't be too bad.

Later.

Steve

holy crap!!! That's a new one! Use a screw extractor to get it out. Just drill an ok starter hole into the bolt, then use a screw extractor from Sears or whatever to get it out. Should be too super hard to do.

Then try it again, use a different bolt (maybe a hardened one from Lowe's or whatever) and grease the bolt, and the tip of it when you do it, that'll help it turn easier and you won't have to worry about it seizing and snapping off again.

Let me know how it goes!

and btw, it will deform/bend the oil pan somewhat. But you can easily bend it back to shape. That is what that hole is for... plain and simple!

Later.

Here you go, it's from a Mazda manual but it'll help you out a little hopefully.

Turbo's are always a long arduous process of many "little" things that cause tons of grief. Just try to find a way to not let it bother you. Best way to do that is by not having expectations... Just take your time and do what you need to do, and realize you'll hit a lot of crappy bumps!!

I'm happy to help though with anything you need.. just pm me or post here and I'll help out!
