Question CAI or SRI

1. I just want to thank everyone for the help on deciding what muffler to get and btw I bought an APEXi N1 Style Universal muffler off of ebay and it sounds awesome.

2. I am stepping into the next phase of my mods and was wondering which would be better CAI or SRI. A buddy of mine (Supercharged Mazda Miata Owner) said that my car already has a CAI. But I see a lot of peepls are putting CAI's and SRI's on their cars. I have a tight 2003 Mitsubishi Lancer OZ Rally.

Please help the helpless here.

Basically, it depends on your driving style.

CAI will give you lots more power at 3500 rpm and up.

SRI will give you more power through most of the rpm range. The gains will be less than cold air, though.

Just as a sidenote, I'm selling my CAI, and I'm pretty sure that you could turn it into a SRI pretty easily...

AEM cold air as short ram \/

As some fo you know, I spent a long time debating on this. Even after I bought my SRI (I got a really good deal on it) I wondered. After some research and talking to dozens of people who owned both and various brands, I decided that the SRI is better for autocross, canyons, and drag racing. CAI is good for highways and maybe speedways (not likely in a lancer, but ya never know).

Blacksheep said it perfectly. SRI has good low end and wonderful throttle response. CAI has slightly more gains in hp, but not tq and the throttle tends to feel sluggish.

Thanks y'all. What about the factory air induction that my car has on it?

I wish I could get my hands on a CAI so I could do some testing on my own. I am thinking on swithing to CAI from my RMR sri.

If the SRI is put close enough to the grill, will it essentially become a CAI? Obviously not sitting still, but when it starts to accelerate?

Yes, if you can get cold air to an SRI, you will be giving it similar advantages of a CAI, and even better you won't have that long tubing to constrict the air. That was my goal when making this contraption.
