Just to clarify, I just got off the phone with Mitsubishi about this. Mitsubishi has no knowledge of this promotion at all. This promotion, according to them, is being run by the dealerships (which are privately owned). They told me for more information to contact my local dealer. This would be my advice to anyone else who was interested. I'll call my dealer later and post what they told me.

This just sounds like a deal where some dealer is trying to move inventory in a hurry. Sure they say they'll pay off your car, but that doesn't mean it won't put negative equity on your new car. The $6000 towards a new car is possible to. It can be one of those "up to" 6k deals, meaning the more car you buy the bigger the discount.

maybe there's such a high demand of used oz's that they're lacking such an inventory because our models were in production for a rather short period of time. was it only a 2 year production period? or 3?

yea, i was the one that got the killer deal. it did seem too good to be true, but it all worked out. get this:

we signed up on one of those no payments for a year thing. we had paid probably around 4 or 5 payments when good ol' mitsubishi decides to send me a letter saying that they wanted my 2002 lancer es! we got raped on it originally ($15,000), but they paid it off and we got a 2003 eclipse gts at msrp. not a bad deal considering the car was worth $7000 and they gave us double what it was worth.
I like to look at it as I traded in my lancer and got my eclipse for $17,000

i was actually looking at getting the srt-4 instead of the eclipse, but the deal fell through. in hindsight, i'm glad it did because this car is SOLID. loads of potential... i only wish it were rear wheel drive.

just make sure you fight for what you want. even though they say that they'll give you $x + $y to spend, make sure that you get more. they only wanted to give us $8000 for my lancer in the beginning, but we ended up getting a lot more out of it. also, make sure you take a lot of time to look the car down. when i got home (by the time the deal was over, it was raining and almost dark) i started to notice a few weird things like grinding into 5th gear and a lot of paint chips and scratches. the paint on mitsu cars sucks... especially the black on my eclipse. i would have told them to fix everything up front instead of having to fight like hell to get it the way it is now. "it grinds because of neglect." haha... yea, in 5th gear only. cause everyone knows how violently i speed shift into 5th and not 1st-4th

there's my advice. oh, and one last thing. if you can't get an evo, totally check out the ralliart or the eclipse. both are great vehicles and will be a nice upgrade over your oz. more body kits are on the way for the ralliart (from what i hear) and turbo has proven itself to make the car as fast or faster than a stock evo. happy boosting =)

A local Mitsu dealer (El Cajon) contacted my neighbor with a similar deal. Basically, he would return his leased OZ (and not owe a thing further), and they would knock $5000 off the price of an 03 EVO, but he would have to buy the EVO. Can you even lease an EVO? Anyhow, he didn't take the deal cause his wife said no. Just wish they did this for ES's...
