Weird Wheels And Tires

I went and measured my wheels earlier just messin around because i had a tape measure. My tires are 195/60R15, discount tire direct even says that that the factory wheel size for the 02 lancer oz is a 15"wheel. But how bout this...My wheel measures 16 inches. Has anyone else noticed this. I am being dead serious and when I get a chance, I will take a picture of my tape measure and wheel together. Technically, the diametor of the wheel is almost 16.5 inches. Please post with feedback!!!!

Is your name Harry or Lloyd?

Just kidding. All wheels have a lip on them where the bead of the tire seals. That lip is not part of the measured diameter of the wheels.

Make sense?

Harry or Lloyd... definitely sweet.

But I didn't know that factoid about the lip either, so I'll go ahead and answer to Lloyd from now on.

Here's an example. Say this is a 17" wheel. That means the inner part where the tire goes is 17" inches in diameter and the 2 lips (inside edge and outer edge) are where the bead of the tire seats. The lips are raised and if you measure that when the tire is mounted, you'll get more than 17" (or whatever).

Cool.....thats awesome...so I'll have like 17/18's when they get in awesome...unless the company meant 17/16's and I got ripped off...that would suck...but they said the rims were 17's so I'm hoping they are 17's.....guess i'll have to wait and see come monday.....I'll be praying until then

When a company states wheel size, it is the inner diameter, the diameter tire to fit on that wheel. So if you order 17's you need xxx/xx/17 tires.

Yah, I'm thinking of going with 215/40R17 Kumhos. I'm hoping those look good. Nice and wide, just a bit of side wall. Any other suggestions for tire size?

ive got the 205/40/17 kuhmo 712s. they are a damn good tire so far. just make sure that your camber is as close to perfect as you can get... low profile tires wear down quick if the camber is off.
