Yea, im putting a hitch on my 2002 ES. Cause we all know these bad boys have hella towing capacity! Especially my stock one! Anyway, I never did this before. What should I look to mount it to? I will be towing about 2000lbs from Pittsburgh to Miami, so it has to be pretty tough. Anyone else put one on a Lancer yet? What brand did you use?

Thx!

I dont have any buddy's who will let me borrow their truck to go drive from PA to FL! Its a 1200 mile trip =[ I dont think I will go 2000LB. The trailer is 650lb, and I prob have less than 800lb in stuff to take. Im moving to FL, so I obviously have to take alot of crap.

Have you considered renting a truck with and trailering the car behind it? I know UHaul's can trailer a car pretty easily and then you don't have to worry about the car dragging a trailer.

2000 is really too much weight to tow using a Lancer

Please please read this

http://www.thedieselstop.com/faq/199...AQ-Hauling.htm

I realize this site doesn't really cater to the whole cowboy/farmhand crowd, but please for the sake of safety don't endanger the entire highway.

Your car has an empty weight of more or less 2600 pounds (got my car weighed when I moved and got payed for doing it by the Air Force hehe), that means you really don't want to have a total weight, whether towing or not of more than say... 3500 pounds after people. It's not a matter of having the springs or whatever, it's a matter of a fact You'd be unable to stop if you needed to, swerve if you needed to, or even accelerate to the MINIMUM speed on the freeway in a safe manner.

..

Just don't do it, what you are asking is A) Illegal and B) a bad decision and C) would get your killed. If you really want to know how much a load you can safely put on your car, it's probably written on your doors or in the frame where you door goes, somewhere on the car there is going to be a sticker that lists how much weight our cars can have.

It's all just a matter of mass. Even if you had the best brakes in the world, they can't stop TWICE your car's empty weight, Not to mention, if you ARE going to get a u-haul and pull 2000 pounds, please make sure to get a quality trailer with brakes and everything. The last thing you want to be doing in a uhaul that you've never driven before is have a load behind you start fishtailing.... so just like you buy a rear sway bar for your car, anti sway bars for trailers come highly recommended by myself truly.

ah, almost forgot this handly little link, please again, read this, it's very concise, and in an easy to read format and explains everything you'll need to know about towing.
