Check posts on the pin outs for the ECU. You just need to tap the RPM wire. Make sure you soldier the wire to get an accurate reading.

It's the green wire behind the cluster on the left side harness. I did it, it's easy.

"Coil Ignition?" You should only need to hook up three diffferent wires. 12V switched power, which can be found in a slew of different places, I found the the best place was the fuse box, took it from the cigatette lighter line. Then you need to tap the rpm, or tachometer line. You can take it from the car's cpu, or easier, pull out the gauge cluster bezel (two screws) then pull out the gauge cluster (three screws), and unplug two large harnesses on the back of it. The signal line is on the left side, closer to driver door harness. It's the green wire, the best way to ensure this is the correct line is to use a dmm if you have one. After you tap that line, just ground it somewhere secure (with no paint) and all ya have to do now is mount it.

The fourth is probably for the tach lighting, but that's just for looks, wouldn't prevent the tach from operating correctly, just remember, make sure the last thing you do is hook up ground, or do it all with neg. on battery disconnected.

that 4th wire...u could hook up to ur headlight switch...with my a/f guage there was a 4th wire and all it does is turn on the black lightning and dim the a/f lights. i didn't bother with it.

just hook it up to ur headlight power wire whatever, so when u turn on ur headlights the tach would show differently. but u dont have to

Yhea, everyone is right about the 4th wire...just for switched lighting. I've hooked tachs to my other cars that didn't have them (certainly nothing as large as 5" though) and they both followed these same instructions. My Tercel, on the other hand, was really easy, because hanging off the distributor was a connector for the test tach the factory uses.

Why install such a big tach? Are you doing serious dragging, or do you simply have rice envy?

Dude, you still haven't got that installed yet, it's freakin easy, on a scale of 1-10, it's like a 2 in difficulty. It shouldn't take more than an hour to do. Do you have a dmm, if not, get one, or take it to a professional.
