Umm... overdrive is anything greater than a 1:1 gear ratio, so 4th gear in an automatic and 5th gear in a stick. It's never 3rd gear.

well... i have custom axle exhaust, custom cold air intake, custom short shifter, and some other custom perfo. parts and some nice tires AND PLUS a ONE good driver. so then, i ran 15.5 at 90.2 mph and smoked a 4dr rice civic that ran 17s

In my opiniom the Lancer is slow. It's nothing but an econo box, thats all it was designed to be nothing more. Thats not saying you cant turn it into something else with enough time and money. Throw enough money at any car and you can make it go! go! go! I think the reason why most people think it is slow is becuase we all usaully base a cars performance and numbers mostly off stock trims and specs..... not an individuals car's specs. If someone doesnt drive and arent into the cars they usually will go off of these numbers and in their mind it is slow....they dont know what you have done to it to tune her up or what its possible potential may be. I myself see more stock Lancers than modded ones.In stock form the lancer is crap, if someone wants something fast.

But what do you define as fast??? I have had a few runs with lancers from a roll on the freeway. Not going over 80 and I would just walk away from them, the poor guys never stood a chance. I have driven the stock ones and man oh man (to me) they are pure gutless and have no power. My 2001 Ford escape was faster and had way more of a punch than the lancer, literally. I do understand what you are saying somewhat tho, it's all in relation. I used to think my Eclipse was just bad *** and was fast as hell. Then I got in my buddies modded 96 Mystique Cobra. I was singing a different tune real quick.

My '88 Grand Am with the 16v 2.3l Quad 4 (Very nice old domestic 4 banger imo btw) was faster than my Lancer stock for stock. Simple facts are, the Lancer was more luxurious (Hey, it's really not bad for a econobox), less hassle (until I modded the **** out of it), and way more fun to drive (this one will always be true). I couldn't agree more with Mobius that it's all relative. On the grand scale of performance for the model year, Lancers rank pretty low, but hey...what matters is whether it's got enough performance FOR YOU. And I also couldn't agree more that making the car something is the fun part for me. Hell, even within the world of Lancers I like to make mine something apart from the rest. I certainly think I've accomplished that if nothing else. Who else has a 1 1/2 ton paperweight?

Thumbs up

I think the lancer is pretty slow at some times but at other times Im satisfied with it. I raced a Honda Civic SI going up a slight hill my friend's car wit alloy wheels and he has 160 horse with 130 torque 2 door hatchback( the round back). It killed me! I looked it up and its curb weight is 2782 from honda.com. Our lancer ES is 2656, OZ is 2795 but AT, and RA is MT 2843. Curb weight meaning car weight's with oil gas and everything without a driver or passenger. I was suprised that the lancer weighed less than the CIVIC SI, according to mistucars.com. My car is nothing but stock wheels and everything except TWM short shifter. So what im asking does the 160 from the 120 makes A HUGE difference and would a SOHC engine compared to a DOHC engine(which the CIVIC has) also makes another HUGE difference? Another thing does a car weighing 200 pounds less from another one, for example if the SI weighed less than the civic, would that make a big difference too. Everybody saying including my friend says that the CIVIC SI weighs a lot less than the lancer but the stats tells something different. Help me out on this. THANKS ALOT

I think that's a topic for another thread. I put more stock in the manufacturer's numbers (which are regulated) than a friend's claims (which are limited only by imagination and possibly based loosely on reality).

you could have bought a civic for the same price as the lancer. but you would just have a civic. if you are discussing things on this forum chances are you mod your car. now i think most can agree that the lancer is leaps and bounds above the civic as far as body style and looks. is it faster or slower? eh. who cares stock numbers versus modded potential. we are all tuners we want to make a simple car something not so simple. look at boe and boni and them. they have some fast freakin cars especially concidering where it started. and hell you can mod the lancer make it super fast and still pull up to the guy in the modded acura and think "my car is as fast or faster with all this stuff on it and i still spent less money"
