Looks nice, Peter. How come you manage to use an airflow sensor with a Motec? Or is it an M4 that your using in conjunction with the standard ECU?

Just read your thread. Hehehe, I think you're back.
In my opinion it has to be the M4 or M4pro, now I would say if you go for Motec might aswell go all the way, i.e. MAP sensor...

hallo michaelk.
sorry about the delay in replying , l am on the network q rally over here and we have been rebuilding a car ready for it .
l have used an m4 pro on the system which runs the engine management only. the cars origonal ecu controls all other functions.
yes l have left the airflow meter in the system, the gains to be had by running with a map sensor are not worth the trouble unless you increase airflow by rearanging the air box and battery to give better flow, this system allows you to unplug and take out the car and the car will drive normally on its origonal ecu.
the object of this system is to plug in and use with very little extra extra work.
maybe phase 2 l will go the whole way with cams and head work and run on race fuel, we are currently shaking down a group a evo 6 to contest in tarmac rallying for next year.
we are getting around 400ft.lbs of torque using a standard turbo
that might be fun on the road,
regards brian.

That does sound promising... did I understand right, 400 lbs with standard cams, head and turbo? Is there any reason why you didn't consider GEMS other than the idea of unplugging the M4 when not needed? I have got HKS piping with the airfilter and battery relocation so am quite keen on a MAP when I upgrade.

Interesting article, however as MK says, why not go for a full new ECU rather than a bolt on?

ok.
two good questions here, lt is a personal thing here with motec l have used some others in the past including gems and l personaly find motec to be a supirior product now before the hate mail starts l must stress that it is my own feeling l simply find motec more able to cope with my requirements l must also point out that l mainly prepare competition cars so l want just that last bit all the time.
l used a piggy back system as the car is a gsr so the standard ecu can deal with aircon and other in car stuff.
the latest motec 800 will do all this but l must confess l took the easiest and most cost effective way.
on the rally cars we use a motec unit on its own to control everything , this enables water injection, traction control launch control etc to be set to the cars requirements,
ok got to go to wales and get wet now ,
so maybe talk soon,
brian

michaelk. in reply to you .sorry almost forgot (lm getting old and senile l think)
no that is with cams and some head work also replacement pistons and rods.
the biggest gain is in being able to use race fuel safely .running your ignition map on the edge of dettonation, with the use of water .
but the pistons are the key , the standard piston will very quickly destroy its ring lands evo 4 owners lm sure will already have found out the hard way,
brian

Brian, that's what I thought. 400 without internal work sounded too good to be true. Cheers for your good info!! Have fun in the rain, may Mäkinen win the WRC!!!
