go to www.askjeeves.com or www.consumerdigest.com they do product reviews.
There is a radar called the Valentine One. Very expensive but apparently very effective. Has a "stealth" install in the sense that the electronics are hidden inside the car and the display is rigged into your rear view mirror, only visible at a certain angle I believe. Will look for more info...
I have been using the bel 815 STiR (os similar model.. not exactly sure) in two cars. this is the model that you install in your car. I am no longer sure they have the best performance, but they seem to work pretty well. UP until this summer I was totally sold on this detector, but I spent time in 2 people's cars that had the Valentine One. I was very impressed, but I don't like the fact it suction cups to your windshield.
As was posted earlier by pjal, the Valentine 1 is supposedly the best detector out there after a recent shootout / mag review. The V1 is nice because it has the best digital signal processing ability of all the detectors out there. It gives you a primitive kind of threat warning display with arrows pointing to the direction the signal is coming from, and a numeric count of the different signals out there.
The biggest competitor to the V1 is the Escort / Passport. I've had a newer Passport and I think it gave a fair amount of false alarms, but I may just have had a bum unit.
The V1 can only be purchased direct from Valentine. And the unit IS designed to be upgradable as newer frequencies and other technology is employed by our friends in law enforcement.
