Lancer Evo VII and US

I got this email from some chick from ralliart in the UK:

Thank you for your enquiry for the Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution model.

The Evolution model range has never been approved for US sales due to the
difficulties in complying with US DOT and EPA requirements.

We have now been informed that a US company Xtreme Autos Inc. have submitted
an Evolution VII model for crash testing, emissions compliance and all of
the other modifications that are required to allow US importation and road
registration.

Xtreme Autos Inc. will be going live with their web site on the 1st December
with the first cars being available around April, 2002.

For more information please check out the web site Xtreme-Autos.com on the
1st December.

I hope this information helps you to obtain one of the fabulous rally bred
high performance cars.

Regards.

Does anyone have any more info on Xtreme-Autos? I wonder if they will have to compete with Evolution Imports... could drop prices on their end

Extreme-Autos is the group who was originally going to import the Evo's. A guy named Kenneth Nims who works for Ralliart Spain was either working with them, or actually starting the company, but as far as I know it was a bust deal. They started to advertise in June, but soon after stopped. After that Evolution Imports started talking about the same thing only a lot more expensive. I think they might have a busted deal as I have not heard from them in over a month, even with repeated attempts to contact them.
I think everyone will have to wait on Mitsubishi.

I investigated importing a EVO VI a couple years ago and it seemed that the federazation process is long and expensive.

I am guessing a price mark up to make US legal. In addition to that the moment Mitsu brings it over offically the importers will be of historic value.

cheers
