Loosening the top nut during spring installation

My friend is having a hell of a time loosening the top nut on the top of the springs. He doesn't have any air tools does anyone have any suggestions on how to loosen it?? He said the rod is spinning everytime he tries to loosen the nut on the top.

You have to have an impact gun (electrical or air) in order to get enough torque to that bolt. Otherwise you're stuck with what you have now - that rod will keep spinning.

use a breaker bar. u need more torque so a breaker bar would work if u dont have any air tools such as a impact gun.

I don't think a breaker bar is gonna help in this situation. A breaker bar would help if the bolt is hard to turn, but in this case, it won't come loose unless you have an impact gun to provide enough torque to turn the bolt without first turning it without enough torque (which puts her in the same situation she's in - the rod spins along with the bolt).

you could always put a vice grip on the rod and hope it doesn't scratch the harcoating of the rod.

Did I just say use a vise grip?

I had some luck by using an allen wrench. At the top of the rod right where the nut is, you will see the the rod is hollow and has an almost hexagonal shape. I used an allen wrench in the hollow area to support and prevent the rod from turning while i used an open end wrench to loosen the nut
