You can tighten up the slack in the throttle cable, ane maybe even the brake cable, but most of the response time you feel is just the mechanics of the car. To tighten the throttle cable, open the hood and find the throttle body, Loosen the two 10mm screws holding the cable on, pull up the slack (don't pull it too tight), then tighten the screws again.

i woud sugest agasint doin the throttle cable
there is a correct way for adjusting have someone sit int he car and hold the gas pedal down to the floor and then adjust it so it is just hitting full throttle, you will streach out your throttle cable doing making the slack to short

but urban is right if you wanna go ahead and do it anyway thats the way to do it

i usggest you dont try it. my buddy has a focus and he tried to mess aound with his throttle and ended up not being able to idle in his car. hten when he fixed that anohter problem arose. it was really just a string of problems. not worth the time you are going to spend screwing with it.
