IM install at dealership?

not too sure where this belongs, so sorry if its in the wrong place.

anywho, i'm about to purchase the intake manifold from rrm, but where i live now i don't know or trust any mechanics. so i was wondering if it would be OK to have the install done at the dealership?

i'm not questioning their knowledge, but i'm a bit wary on a few things, ie them screwing me over, keeping the stock IM(i need it for core change), or something like that

any experience?

i dont think they would do it because its considers aftermarkte...but you can try just tell them you got a spare one and hade it powder coated...cant hurt to try...your looking at a lot of labor though

they'll do aftermarket work(at least mine will)... but they will screw you on labor charges... i would try to find a shop who will be much cheaper

why dont u just do it yourself. It looks like to me the only problem is the location and all the wires that ull have to deal with.

im sure ull save alot of money, with that money u could buy the TB or something else

Bingo! I saw Gabe at RRM doing one once, and he was proud when he did it under 4 hours. From what I saw, it isn't too terrible difficult, but there's a LOT of scres and bolts and hoses and stuff to remove and make sure to put in the right place when reinstalling it. It looked like a mess for an hour or two.

Let's not forget, RRM have experience yanking the IM off and reinstalling. A dealership mechanic who has probably never done it before (why would he/she?) will probably take longer. My friend took 6 hours to install his. At $80 an hour, that's a pretty expensive install.

well, the thing is, i would trust a dealership more than any other garage, and places like firestone/gm goodwrench aren't up to the task, right?

Oh, I understand. I used to trust the dealership to do it correctly as well. Mine has screwed some things up, so I'm not so sure, but yours is probably better. I'm just saying that it'll be EXPENSIVE.

And to be honest, I do think that if you took it to an average auto place, they'd probably do an OK job and for 1/2 to 2/3 the dealership price.

just got off the phone with the dealership, and they were really helpful. they were concerned about the warranty, so they called up mitsu, and quoted me the Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act(which i already knew). they said it would be around 300 to install, so looks like i might go that way
