Paint chips and the warranty?

I havent had the lancer for a year yet, but have paint chipping in many places. The passenger side skirt has some terrible looking chips, ill try and get some pics tomo. There is also some smaller chips on the roof and hood and trunk. My car had double black stripes from teh dealer but i took them off after a few months. Taking them off didnt case any of the paint chips. They arent really paint chips everywhere, they are little spots where paint is gone but it doestn look like it was caused by something hitting it. On the trunk there is also some big chips where the dealer originally took off the badges to put the stripes on and the emblems over the stripes. My car also has two slight stripes going down it from the paint fading where the stripes werent but now that the stripes are gone, the area where they were is a slightly darker. You can only see the diff if you look close.

My question is, does the dealer have to paint my car bc of the warranty. I dont raelly know what my options are. Will the dealer make a stink bc i took off the stripes on my own.

You live in Florida right Mike? Doesn't the higer level of salt in the air, beacuse of the sea, effect the paint? Anyway, I could be wrong but I heard that they don't warentee the paint... my paint is also starting to get messed up in places. Someday I'm getting my car painted anyway so I'm not so worried about it.

Thumbs up

I got mitsu to fix my paint chip problems, i had it on the back drivers side near the tire, and i told them to push in the area near fender where it separates. I have never had problems again. Mine was actually pushed out a lil more then it was supposed to be. So go and check with mitsu they might fix it for you to.

well they kept my car for a day and they pushed the area i was talking about, near the fender, more evenly with the fender itself and they repainted the chips. thats all they did

i don't think it just the yellow Lancers that have the chipping problem. I saw at the dealer which had 25 '03 Lancers and every type of color had chips on the hood and fenders. Mitsu usesa hard paint that chips very easy, but is more resistant to scratches, non metallic Lancers like, yellow, white and black do not have a clearcoat also.

I dunno my paint scratches easily too. I have a black one. Is that due to not having a clearcoat

Mitsu told me that my paint chips were from little rocks that were kicked up from my front tires and hit my car taking the paint off.

i dont see how they could have gotten to the roof then and the side skirt damage is obvisouly not from rocks.

Best bet is to make an appointment with the district manager of and see what he has to say about it. They repainted my fender after looking at it because it had been repainted at the factory and was buffed down too much.

I have an 03 and not any paint chipping here. I can say it's certainly not resistant to scratches either.
