Governor on our cars?

Does the lancer have a governor that anyone knows of...i know it's not easy to get to, but i'd be curious to know if we have one. Does anyone know the top speed of the car with stock gearing?

twardnw Jan 25, 2005 08:55 AM

about 135.6 is what I've seen posted on here, no govenor, just the fuel cut-out at 6xxx RPM's

ItsTheDriver13 Jan 25, 2005 08:58 AM

wonder if anyone has gotten to that n/a?

twardnw Jan 25, 2005 09:01 AM

I've seen some posts of people being close to that, would probly take a long straight chunk of road (maybe a little downhill too ? )

ItsTheDriver13 Jan 25, 2005 09:11 AM

well then here is a better question. how fast has anyone gone in there lancer n/a top speed wise? list mods

ive hit 114 w/ magnaflow catback and bridgestone potenza 17" s03 tires

twardnw Jan 25, 2005 09:12 AM

115 (4th gear, hit fuel cut-out) on cheapo Les Schwab tires mounted on my Enkei 15's

acs_guitars Jan 25, 2005 09:21 AM

I have gone 120+ 1 or 2 mph in a completely stock OZ and had a little room left on the tach. It is not a downhill or straight piece or road either, it is actually a very slight incline with banked sweeping turns. The top speed is all in the gearing not so much the HP. These car are by no means a top speed racer, but they handle well (OZ anyway) in high speeds.

irulea2 Jan 25, 2005 09:22 AM

122 (in my auto oz) on toyo proxies mounted on my konig rythems, and nothing else but rrm SRI, loooooooong stretch of I - 75

Danno Jan 25, 2005 09:31 AM

Ive heard of it toping out (because of govener) at 215km/h (aprox 135mph) I have only been in a Lancer doing 210km/h (aprox 130mph)

FlLancer Jan 25, 2005 10:08 AM

I went 200mph at 13k rpm.

akinaspeedstars Jan 25, 2005 10:11 AM

125mph on i-95 coming back from miami and racing 2 civics lol

wingnut17 Jan 25, 2005 10:12 AM

I have traveled (completely stock except lowering springs) at 132 on a slight downhill on I-79 from Pittsburgh to Erie. Car handled beautifully. I don't know how much room was on my tachometer because I was afraid to take my eyes off the road because there were many other cars in the right lane I was passing.

ItsTheDriver13 Jan 25, 2005 10:14 AM

id imagine the lower springs help the air resistance ALOT on our cars.........

lookslikeanevo Jan 25, 2005 10:18 AM

ive gone 130 plus on the way to vegas....with 4 people in the car, and room on the tach...mods are aem CAI and greddy catback....and lowered...im guessing my oem eevo8 spoiler might have helped in keeping the car down...along witht he 4 people in the car

Shado Jan 25, 2005 11:07 AM

I have hit just above the 120mph mark on my speedo when travling on interstate 69 between Lafayette and Merrilville Indiana. Too bad my best friend in his 2001 Galant ES could not keep up.... He told me it had a V6, but later I find out it has a 2.4lt inline 4. My car is a 2004 Lancer O-Z 5 speed, totally stock engine/ transmission wise. Stock 15" O-Z rims with Yokahama All-Season Tires.
L8R, Jay

pgmike Jan 25, 2005 11:09 AM

speedo is innaccurate at those speeds and i pegged past what it went to

TeamAccolade Jan 25, 2005 12:49 PM

i hit the cut off when i was stock... 110 i've gone modded, up 65.

wiretap Jan 25, 2005 04:39 PM

I've got up around 125+ in 5th gear on I-275 here in Michigan out by Metro Airport.. Its about a 5 mile stretch of straight highway. I still had about 800rpms left. Mods: Eibach Springs, Magnaflow catback, injen intake, 17'' motegi's, evo wing.. blah.. look at the rest on my personal garage. =] The car held up and was very stable. It just takes quite a while to reach the high speeds. Oh yes.. bring a radar detector =D!

Blue Oompa Jan 25, 2005 08:19 PM

damn i have a piece of crap governor. it is a little plastic stopper in back of the gas pedal. in a stock auto es i topped out at 105

twardnw Jan 25, 2005 08:21 PM

 that's not a govenor, that's just a pedal stop to keep you from snapping the throttle cable or mashing the pedal ino the floor

Lancerguy'03 Jan 25, 2005 08:29 PM

ive hit about 122 but let off gas.....definlty wanted to keep goin....fast. :D

excessforce Jan 26, 2005 08:11 PM

115 mph......interstate 80... like wingnut,didnt move the eyesite from road,lol
and all i have is bomz intake, cheap crappy,i know and icw racing rims, nothing too major..

twisty1251 Jan 27, 2005 09:19 AM

i hit 120mph on interstate 15 south. it was like 11pm and i had one passenger. pretty flat, maybe slight downhill. stock auto.

urbanknight Jan 27, 2005 01:12 PM

I've been over 125 na with intake, strut bars, and coilovers. But as said before, Boe says the car will get too much drag around 130. I believe it, because I got 9 mpg driving that fast for so long!

all i have is catback exhaust, everything else stock went on a roadtrip full trunk, brother, and full backseat and me, 115 to 120mph, lost alotta gas, south carolina to kansas city doing 100+ the whole way...didnt get caught {thumbup}

stingrayz03oz Feb 7, 2005 02:21 AM

I've done 130mph stock with automatic.

I did 130mph on christmas eve,2003,highway 85,long stretch with a sweeping left curve. No other traffic was present.
I did this before I was told that cars have governers to limit the speed of a vehicle so that it doesn't go over a tire's speed rating. This was because of the Ford Explorer tire-shredding issues. I wanted to check for myself.
My oem Yokohamas are T rated at 118 mph yet I pushed my OZ over 120mph yesterday morning on highway 87. Again,no other cars were on the expressway.
To be honest,I won't do it again until I change my tires to ones that have a higher speed rating like an H,just to have that extra safety margin. The #2 crash rating of the Lancer is a good reason to ease up too.
As for stability,my OZ was stable at 111,120 and 130mph. I also hit 91mph on the 85/87 ramp, commuter lane, far left next to the barrier wall.No drift,no wander, very stable. Oh,my 95lb wife was on-board too.
I do baby my car most of the time, driving the speed limit. My OZ isn't anything special. However,I like the accelleration when I get a green and the auto shifts faster than the cars with manuals that are next to me. I can tell they're manuals because the drivers always seem to mis-shift. The OZ does take a while to get up to the speeds above 95mph.
My only issue with this car is the bad paint and Mitsubishi warranty/quality issue complaints from other owners.But that's for another forum. {thumbdwn}
It's a daily driver and I just hit 40,000 miles this evening. Overall,I'm happy with my OZ. {thumbup}

totaldefiance03 Feb 7, 2005 10:02 AM

I hit around that 130 mark on a 2 mile strait run down by the bech bnut once you get over 1120 the car shakes a little this was about a month after I got it from the dealership with basic bolt ons

travelsize420 Feb 7, 2005 10:08 AM

120. sri ttest pipe

Koss Feb 7, 2005 02:46 PM

i drive an es 03 and went a little over 120 with 4 ppl in the car (total). was still going up but i had to let go for an exit

sorry, whoever told you that doesn't have their facts straight. there's no govenor on our cars, the closest thing is the fuel cut-out that happens when you hit 67xx rpm's, and that is only to protect the engine

urbanknight Feb 7, 2005 10:30 PM

Other than a rev limiter, our car has NO speed governer... well, except for the limits of the weak engine and heavy frame

hypo74 Feb 8, 2005 10:07 AM

I have only been able to hit 115 mph. if the car really does almost 130 mph or faster i will try to get it there soon and let you folks know. Sounds like a challenge.

Exel 17" with Hancook, AEM CAI.

twardnw Feb 8, 2005 10:11 AM

well, we know, it can do 135... I wouldn't suggest trying it anywhere but a track, once you get about 120 the drag is high and those last few mph take a while to get

hypo74 Feb 8, 2005 10:16 AM

The drag starts at about the 115 mark because trying to get more speed is like trying to push a boulder.

80 West bound, new jersey, mile markers 9-6

Blue04ES Feb 8, 2005 10:21 AM

My cars governor is different everyday, depending on the current air pressure

Stingray_63oz Feb 12, 2005 01:33 AM

You're right.

Sorry,I was hoping to respond earlier but I could not respond with my old account and I started a new one.
Because of the Firestone/Ford Explorer tire issues, automotive and tire companies did not want to be sued for tires blowing out so they placed limits. The rev limiter/govenor or whatever is there to protect the engine but also there to keep the car from going over the tire's temp limit that can cause a blow-out. T/118mph, H/130mph,Z rating + 149mph and so on.When friction heats up a tire beyond it's temp limit then you have problems. There are many drivers out there who push their cars to the limits and companies don't want to be sued for something going wrong, unless it was for an actual tire defect.
The friend who told me that cars have a govenor drives a Honda and this was before I got into the automotive design business. The rest of the information I got were from my instructors and tire manufacturers/experts that we work with and the information you get from the sidewall of a tire. So,if you get the same info from different sources,it's not all b.s. so yes,my friends do know what they're talking about.
As for my O-Z reaching 130mph,it sure didn't feel like a brick and it was stable but it sucked up lots of gas.

imapunkclaimer Feb 12, 2005 01:40 AM

Also 130 Here when it was completely stock and had probably 2k miles

camaro379ss Feb 12, 2005 07:04 AM

wasn't there a thread a long time ago saying how fast people have gone in their lancers?

i don't know, maybe i just imagined this.

Sir Lancelot Feb 12, 2005 07:18 AM

I was clocked at 133mph on a straight away flat surface with just me in the car... RMR Axle-back, custom downpipe-back to RMR, RMR intake, reflashed ECU...

State trooper was impressed and said it was the highest he's ever seen a car do...

Got me out of the car, looked at it and wanted to know what the hell it was :D .
Luckly I got away with just a warning cause I knew him....

ROFL!!! props to you Sir Lancelot!! :headbang: You're my hero!

Evilution VIII Feb 12, 2005 08:23 AM

I would love to see some of the speed ratings on the tires these kids are taking almost to 130 lol.... especially the one admitting he has the "el cheapo" no name treads on.

Sir Lancelot Feb 12, 2005 08:24 AM

I was running on Kuhmo Ecsta Supra 712's Z rated, which were fine for those speeds....at least they seemed to be...hahaha

Yes there was, and the answers were about the same (ranging from 110 to about 130) but since this one is about speed governors, it's kinda sorta lil teeny bit different.

wiretap Feb 12, 2005 09:30 PM

Hankook Ventus HRII tires.. H-rated. ~130mph. =D
The tires are always rated under what they can do anyways for safety reasons.. =/

ThunderOZ Aug 11, 2005 10:49 PM

120mph in stock auto TG OZ on I-95 while running wit a mazda 6, but let off.....da oz had an incredibly smooth ride @ that speed

vikktorlv Aug 11, 2005 11:03 PM

speed

speedo burried on I-15 on stock tires. Tonight!

drucea Oct 16, 2005 01:51 AM

OK, today i got to exactly 120 running with a cavalier, going in and out of traffic, and the ride was very smooth, no problem changing lanes very fast. I was suprised. But I thought it was weird cause it was on a flat road and took like 5 minutes to get from like 90 to 120. but another time i was on a long empty road and it got to around 102 and for about 5 more minutes it wouldn't go any higher, again the road was flat. whats with that? oh and mods are k&n short ram, magnaflow axelback, and 17" 5Zigens. tires were like General or something. Dunno, came on the wheels from where i ordered them.

slmdnk9 Oct 17, 2005 03:43 PM

getting to 120 mph, i used to everyday home from work off I-10 in buckeye, arizona. gets up to 115 to 120 within a mile. takes a while to get up there after that. got up to 126 and ran out of freeway (exit) that was when my car was stock with a generic short ram intake and 15'' falken azenies z rated tires (new at the time) and my car had aprox. 8-10,000 on it.

05ES Oct 17, 2005 04:04 PM

Best I've ever done is 115 and it seemed to just stop there. Was at about 5000rpm. It's an auto 05 ES, stock. Sux up gas like nothing i've ever seen tho.

On a side note, i do remember reading somewhere that the ES/OZ had a speed limiter of about 114. don't remember where though. i'll try and find it.

CityKnight Oct 21, 2005 04:38 AM

Ive taken mine on the PA Turnpike to 135mph N/A {thumbup}

mitsuozboi Oct 21, 2005 05:30 PM

115 with stock 03 oz auto, caught up with traffic so I had to cut it, was only at like 3-4k rpm

RaLlYkId05 Oct 22, 2005 07:53 AM

ive gotten to like 125 mph on route 80 in jersey going around bends. I think i was at like 4000 rpm ill find out next time i attempt to do it again. Bone stock 04 oz rally

Merciless_Mike Oct 27, 2005 01:25 AM

Best I have done is bury the speedo going into Primm, Nv (Route to Vegas on I-15). Too busy watching what traffic there was, but I am certain that I was well over 130. AEM CAI/ Piggy v1/Header/Test pipe/Catback/RRM Stage 2 Clutch/RRM Flywheel....

02OZR Oct 27, 2005 02:44 AM

I hit 126mph in my 02 Auto OZ on Hwy 81, its kinda down hill. With SRI & Piggyback. Maybe i can get 130+ then/if i get the RRM header i ordered off krnzzang84720. He said they would ship out before 12noon yesterday and i havent heard from him. *cross-fingers* (Anyone know him IRL?)

wow my car's only doing around 90-95 when it hits 4k rpm

drucea Oct 28, 2005 06:20 PM

the other day on the highway it was flat, i got to 110 mph for a minute at like 4000 rpms. then with it still floored the speed started dropping to like 105 mph. then after driving 70 mph for a while, i floored it again in the exact same condition andgot it up to 120. is that because the engine wasnt warmed up enough yet?

2011LancerEs Oct 8, 2012 05:20 PM

I have A 2011 lancer es and ive done about 138.00 mph vs a bmw 350i i keeped up but toped out and he passed me.:mitsu:{thumbup}
