I had to wire in a tach signal and I used the green wire (if I remember correctly) on the right hand connector. It was the wire in the center of the plug.

(edit- Its the green wire, pin 11, on the C-01 plug on the back of the cluster(the plug that is to the rightmost side if you are looking at the back of the cluster))

Have you tried to contact the manufacturer and ask them questions about it?

Is it one of those generic Ebay products? Thought you got someone thing like a new or used Auto Meter.
Might not be able to help. Sound like you were talking to the wholesaler.

What's the link to the auction you won?
Does it look something like these?
"REAL CARBON FIBER"

If worst comes to worst you would have to take it to a performance/speed shop and pay them to install it; someone at autozone might be able to help
OR
Might not be able to install it at all.

there is also an rpm signal wire at the ECU. On connector C-117 (This is the connector at the ECU w/ 12 pins.), it is the green/white wire. This is the engine speed detection sensor. The ecu engine speed sensor signal is the one i use for my MS2 and zeitronix, it works beautifully.

If that doesn't work your last option would be to try the Crankshaft pos. sensor. On connector C-115(connector w/ 22 pins), it's the brown/green wire.

Or you could try a coilpack trigger signal. This option may only give you a 1/2 rpm reading if you are only reading off one coil.

Goodluck

you can compare your ECU to that of an evo VIII but i believe the pinout is different. i think our ECUs match up with a VII instead. i'm not %100 on this, but it will at least give you a rough idea. don't go chopping up wires on your ECU unless you're %100 sure about it.

Install was done on an 03'. But the manual I got the information from states it pertains to both 2002-2003.

Have you tried the green/white wire your piggy is connected to? Tapping it shouldn't disrupt any signal at your stock tach nor the piggyback.
