Painting help!?

Just recently I saw a few members on this forum had painted their front grilles black and thought it looked amazing! With this said, I was just wondering how and what you used to do it? I was considering doing it to mine, just not sure how to (I'm a novice when it comes to painting, especially exterior wise). If you could lay out a how to that would be great! And I think someone else posted this, but also was wondering what is required to paint the spark plug cover/engine cover? Thanks in advance!

Tape off the areas you don't want paint to get on.

Sand the area you want to paint smooth.

Paint gently and evenly, following the instructions on the can.

Clearcoat would be a good idea.

Not exactly sure what more to say. Painting doesn't allow for much of a "how to" - it's just a matter of doing it.

What kind of paint? What sand grit do we use? I have the GTS, so it has the chrome finish. Do we sand the chrome finish off?

Use around a 400 grit to scuff the surface of the chrome finish real good. Apply a coat of primer. Use the 400 grit to sand the primer and make sure there were no runs or bumps. Apply the base coat color that you want. A spray auto touchup paint should be fine. Do not overdue each coat. The first coat should still be see through sometimes even the second can be seen through. Third and fourth should cover. Then apply 2-3 coats of clear. Then wet sand using 1200-1500 grit until the surface is smooth. (You will almost defanitely need this using a spray can to paint.) Buff using a higher grit compount, and then reinstall.
