Navigation Question: What's this thing for?
Hey guys, I also found out that each disc comes with a unique "key" that plugs into the 3.5 mm jack under the screen. This key, matches the serial on the disc, and once used, cannot be used on a different car. For me the update isn't worth $120 or even the dealer cost which is $90. Maybe for people that travel across country all of the time...
Now thats interesting ... I can't help but wonder if you could just pull the hard drive of an updated MMCS and copy the map data files to the hard drive of another MMCS. The files looked fairly generic when I was examining them off the hard drive.
Yes its possible to pull the hard drive. However, it is not yet possible to upload music to it by copying directly to the hard drive (the database structure/file format/DRM info still needs reverse engineered). All the map data, screen graphics, and operating system ROM image are on the hard drive, too.
Anybody who has upgraded their software to version "C" (presumably with the new map update disc) please contact me, especially if you want to unlock and read your hard drive directly and have decent computer skills. I'd be curious to know what all has changed in the new software version.
