diamond shape on the mani

hey guys wat do you call the diamond thing on the side of the manifold, i forgot the name, forget it i found it, i have a auto and wat happends if i block off the bov return line on the intake??

thanks guys, i found some info about blocking off the egr valve, by blocking it engine will loose gas milage and it will over heat faster, is that correct??
